i saw the mets +/- win total set at 89.5... i cant see this team reaching 90 wins, mike pelfrey is the freakin #2, yes big pelf and his 5+ era. not too mention the bullpen is lookin really weak. theyre relying on either escobar or some random 35 year japanese guy to be the set up guy for k rod (who i have no faith in). escobar been out of baseball for awhile and who knows with the japanese guy.
So basically they need pelfrey to improve significantly from last year. they need john maine, who is a 5 inning type pitcher, to improve AND stay healthy, and they need the headcase that is oliver perez to throw strikes (which most likely isnt going to happen).
The catching situation is a joke, career minor leaguer omir santos is the starter. the line up is decent but with beltran out for a while and jason bay only really offsetting delgado's production, its really not that scary a line up. they need daniel murphy to be more productive at first base, castillo and his old knees to be effective again, and francour to not regress back to being horrible
All in all, this team is one gigantic question mark. besides signing jason bay, all minaya did was stockpile cheap signings again. after two str8 epic collapses and then last year's debacle, this was not the kind of offseason the mutts needed. if every single thing goes right i still see 90 wins a maximum win total considering they'll probly choke in september again if theyre still in the race. is the national league that bad that the mets are expected to win 90??
yes i am a mutt fan but they piss me off so much i have no optimism. i lived in philly during the historic, pathetic '07 collapse and my roomates were phillies fans...it was pretty miserable times. the mutts backed that up with another collapse. o but dont worry, jason bay is here to save us!! thats all we needed! our pitching staff is unbelivable..go mutts!!
