    2009 MLB WORST Team

Who do you think just has the most god awful and worst team in MLB for 2009?
Funny thing is that in 2008 a lot of Tampa Bays would have shown up here....they made the World Series...lol

Anyway....who do you think has the worst team in 2009?
If it ain't fun, don't do it!

I'll go out on a limb and say Pittsburgh will be the worst team. Year after year this team's management has no desire to pay anyone. Maybe its because they are a small market team, but they really are pathetic. I don't think they even care that they suck either thats the thing. So here's to 60 wins:beerbang:

I don't think anyone from last year could of made a case for TB being the worst team. Unless you are talking strictly record wise? If so, then I can see your point.

If we're talking record, I think Baltimore has a real legit shot to end with under 60 wins. They're the clear step child the AL East, and are going to receive a real pounding from those guys.

Worst talent wise who overall is going to play horrible baseball... I think you could make a case for the Rockies. When you get those inflated avgerages away from Coors, their lack of talent really shows. Jiménez is a bright spot among that group, but I think he needs a year or 2 more to really be effective.

My first thought was Pittsburgh too, but all those losing years has to turn into good minor league system soon?

That's funny. You're talking about a system that was headed by Dave Littlefield for multiple years.

Yeah, that Dave Littlefield. The one that passed on Matt Wieters for Daniel Moskos.

What about Baltimore? Is that not the worst pitching staff ever assembled? At least SD has Peavy and maybe Young.

How is the Oriole total 73.5???? Anyone?

no doubt on the pitching staff, they have a really good batting lineup imo though

but 74 wins in a division with yankees redsox rays
and only winning 68 last year?

i do however like jim johnson he will be a good pitcher to come but the rest are gonna get ripped by the lineups they have to face..

not a chance. They are a good young baseball team. Probably will be about a 76-80 win ball club IMO. I think at best they win about 82-84 and they won't be much worse than 74-76 wins and that won't be the worst record in baseball.

My vote goes to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the NL and the O's in the AL. O's just due to the fact that they will play Boston, Yankees and TB so may times plus the other decent teams outside the division they play. The Pirates will do their usual decent April and then find themselves 19 1/2 games out by the all star break. Kind of sad actually because this was a heck of a WS matchup 30 years ago back in the day where small market teams could make it (of course before baseball and sports turned into a corporate high dollar money machine). Would be nice to see teams like the Reds, O's, Pirates etc... make some noise.

The Rays were in the WS last year. The Marlins won a couple years ago. The Twins are ALWAYS good. The Royals are on their way. Respective teams' markets are an excuse to some degree, but not the end-all be-all. The Pirates haven't produced a good player in what seems like decades. They drafted like 7 pitchers in a row in the 1st round, and not one of them panned out. The Reds make assanine signings like Cordero taking up 1/8th of their payroll, or getting oft-injured Griffey Jr crippling their payroll flexibility for half a decade. Eric Milton? Need I go on... Much of the blame lies within for those two organizations.

very very true. i guess cuse i am getting more and more turned off by the day with the way sports are going in terms of being corporate big money luxury machines. after sitting at the very top of the stadium 3 straight times with tickets THROUGH Osu and seeing corporate chicks on the 30 yeard line not even knowing who is playing....seeing the Reds add 10.00 to ticket prices for "premiere" series like the Indians....watching my dodger seats i USED to have (before we dropped them this year) go from 48.00 a seat to about 68.00 a seat in 2+ years.....after going to a NASCAR race from about 95-99 and then returning 3 years later to see that the pits were no longer full of race fans but the same corporate morons that were sitting on the 40 yard line.........after watching a bad clippers team raise ticket prices from 95.00 a seat to 145.00 a seat in 2 years.......just really starting to tune out sports.

but "your" right about the reds/pirates etc......guess my post was kind of a misguided attempt at saying sports were better 20 years ago and there is no arguing that at all IMO.

Eeesh, no brainer IMO....Pirates might not win 60.

For what it's worth, I think Baltimore beats Toronto for 4th in the ALE this year. The Jays had absolutely no hitting last year, and did not add any significant bat. They DID lose a hell of a lot of starting pitching however. I don't expect Toronto's bullpen to be as great this year, having to come into games alot earlier with the thin rotation. Baltimore has a much better lineup, IMO. Jays have Halladay, who plays every 5th game.

Don't forget about Seattle in the AL, and their poor attempt to add youth to their lineup, ha ha. Especially if Miguel Batista is closing. Watch out. It's a shame because Safeco might be my favorite stadium to watch a game.

Agreed on Pittsburgh though. Not enough there to do much.

great point on the jays.....you know i really debated saying Jays over O's but every single year it seems like the O's find a way to play just awful baseball over long stretches of the season. Also not sure Huff has the year he had last year, Mora is 37....Wiggington, Freel are role guys.....Adam Jones, Markakis, Roberts....those guys are going to have to have big seasons to offset their bad pitching. At the end of the day i think both of those teams are going to struggle. How much i guess we will see.
