    Tuesday, July 22 Selections

Texas Rangers at Chicago White Sox
Luis Mendoza (2-3, 6.28 ERA) vs. Mark Buehrle (7-8, 3.69 ERA)

Tonight the hottest offense in the major-league faces off against a pitcher whom threw a no-hitter last time the teams had met.

Taking the ball tonight for the White Sox will be Mark Buehrle. Buehrle has lost two of his last three starts, but has pitched extremely well for the most part over the last six weeks, going 5-2 with a 1.83 ERA since June 7. The last time Buehrle pitched against the Rangers he threw a no-hitter in April of 2007. Buehrle is starting only on three days rest but has proven in the past that he can still be effective.

The only problem Buehrle has on his hands tonight is that he will be facing the best offense in baseball, the Texas Rangers. Texas averages 5.5 runs per game; therefore, the Sox are going to probably need some offense in this one. With Luis Mendoza on the mound for the Rangers, I highly doubt that will be to much of an issue. Although Mendoza is coming off a qualty start, I think he gets lit tonight at US Cellular Field.

Tonight's game is two teams that play opposite ball, the Rangers hit and the Sox pitch. The issue that seperates the two teams is that Chicago can also swing the bat. I can't see the White Sox dropping another series to the Rangers especially with this pitching matchup.
    • White Sox won five of last six Buehrle home starts.
    • Texas is 0-3 in Mendoza road starts (0-1, 17.36).
    • Chi White Sox are 18-7 SU in their last 25 games at home.
    • Buehrle is 3-1 with a 2.94 ERA in five career starts on three days' rest.
    • Head-to-Head Series History
    • TEXAS is 3-1 against CHI WHITE SOX this season
    • 2 of 4 games in this series have gone OVER THE TOTAL this season .

His team's record is 1-0 in these starts. The OVER is 0-1.

BUEHRLE is 9-3 when starting against TEXAS with an ERA of 2.75 and a WHIP of 1.042.

Philadelphia Phillies at New York Mets
Joe Blanton (5-12, 4.96 ERA) vs. Johan Santana (8-7, 3.10 ERA)

The Mets will play host to the Phillies tonight at Shea Stadium in a three game series to determine a leader of the NL East.

New York comes into this game winners of eleven of their last thirteen games. On the mound will be offseason acquisition Johan Santana. Santana has pitched well in the two games he has faced the Phillies this year, going 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA; Santana will be looking to continue that success this evening too. Although Santana had been struggling lately, only 8-7 on the season, he has reclaimed some of that dominance in his last two starts and picked up wins in both. Look for Santana to pitch deep into this one even against the hard hitting Phillies.

On the opposing side of this matchup the Phillies send newly acquired Joe Blanton. Blanton has also had success on the mound, not allowing a run in two starts against the Mets. However, Blanton has been a huge dissapointment this entire season, going 5-12 with a 4.96 ERA in 20 starts. Although I think Joe Blanton is absolutley a bum, he will pitch well into this one in a close battle against with tht Mets.
    • Santana is 1-0, 3.00 in two starts vs Phillies this year.
    • Blanton was 2-6, 6.94 in his last eight starts for the A's.
    • Mets won eleven of last thirteen games.
    • Under is 8-1 in Mets' last ten home games.
    • The Under is 8-1 in New York's last 9 home games.
    • The total has gone Under in 5 of NY Mets's last 7 games
    • The total has gone Under in 4 of Philadelphia's last 6 games when playing NY Mets.
    • Blanton is 3-11 against the money line in night games this season.
    • Santana is 89-38 against the money line in night games since 1997.
    • Santana is 75-25 against the money line after a win since 1997.

Minnesota Twins at New York Yankees
Kevin Slowey (6-6, 4.26 ERA) vs Darrell Rasner (5-7, 4.97 ERA)

Ravished by injuries the New York Yankees take to the field in attempt to continue their sudden surge in the AL. Although missing many key parts to their lineup, the Yankees have continued to win in attempt to making a playoff push. My question is how long can they keep this up?

Although winning came easily at home last night, I don't thing the same will be the result tonight with Darrell Rasner on the mound. Rasner has been horrible after a nice start to the season, falling in seven out of his last nine starts and accumilating a 6.56 ERA. Not only has Rasner not pitched well, he aslo can't make it deep into games, failing to make it farther than five innings in his last five starts. I don't see any reason to think that he will be any better tonight agains the Twins.

The Twins seem to be cooling off a bit after winning 18 of 21 from June 13-July 6. The good thing for them is that they will have Kevin Slowey on the mound. Slowey has not pitched in 12 days after being held out with an injury on his throwing hand. Slowey had a few rough outings before the All-Star break, but he will look to bounce back tonight. I think I like his chances with Rasner pitching against him tonight.
    • Twins are 5-1 in Slowey's last six road starts.
    • Rasner is 2-7, 6.56 in his last nine starts.
    • Minnesota is 10-6 in its last sixteen games.
    • Minnesota is 17-8 SU in its last 25 games

      Welcome aboard.

I like the detail you put into your picks but what number do you have for the under in the mets game?

Also shouldn't you be 2-1 +2 units as your TB play was a two unit winner + Bost 1 unit winner - Min 1 unit loser.

      Anyways good luck tonight
