Starting with a couple afternooners...
Astros +162 (Backe) vs Phillies
The hugely over-rated Bret Myers laying -170? Fade. Phils are 1-7 in his last 8 starts, and the guy hasn't shown he can be a dominant starter in a few years. I actually prefer the rejuvenated Backe in this one, and the Phils offence seems to miss Rollins as well. This line is off by 30 cents, IMO.
Reds +129 (Volquez) vs Cubs (Lilly)
Fading Lilly. This guy was never more than a .500 pitcher and a #4 type lefty starter, and his inconsistancy is legendary around these parts. He had a decent year last year in his first go-around in the NL, but the party's over this year, IMO. The guy has no velocity, and his curveball can be so hit or miss. Lilly was horrible in the pre-season, has been horrible in 3 starts to start the year, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him in the bullpen or the DL before long. He's lasting about 4 innings per start this year, and the Reds must be looking at this as a perfect spot to end their streak. Volquez is a good young arm, and has come out of the gate strong. Cubs losing Soriano helps too...
