Terrible night to put me back in the red for the season, plus my comp just erased the longest baseball writeup I have ever attempted. Cliff notes version...
Webb/Zito- Seemingly everyone is lining up to back Webb, & for good reason. He's a great pitcher, & Zito has looked terrible. However, I don't think this is a good spot for him. I can't help but see value in Zito- he got hit hard his two road starts, but pitched 6 innings & allowed 1 er @ home vs the Cards. Everyone is well aware by now of the Giants hitting woes, but they still have a winning home record at 5-4. With the total juiced @ 7.5-125, seems as if the books expect a low scoring game. If a pitching duel comes to fruition, & think the 1st5+.5 could be a nice play. Zito at home taking the mound to win the series & gather his first win... I like it. Lean SF 1st5 +.50195, +1.5-110, +158
Oswalt/Kendrick- Kendrick is favored, IMO mostly because of how well he has pitched at home. However, I get the feeling Oswalt will pitch a gem here. His early troubles this season have been well documented, but he worked on a mechanical flaw in his delivery this week with his pitching coach, & he says he feels much better now. IMO you can't dismiss Oswalt just yet. One thing that is very telling is his K/BB ratio- He is averaging 12k/ 2 BB- he is guaranteed to get back on track should he continue that ratio. On the other hand Kendrick has a K/BB ratio of 1/9bb! One thing looms in this game, & that is the pen of the Strohs losing it for me once again. For that reason I am also considering 1st5. Lean Houston+108/ 1st5
Shields/ Hernandez- I think laying the short chalk here could be the play. You get the better pitcher who is starting to reach his peak vs. an aging Livan who IMO is a threat to get rocked at any point. Shield allowed 2 er in his last 2 starts. lean Rays-117/ team o4.5+100
Other leans... Wsox+108/-1.5+160, Det/Clev o10.
Nothing in yet, still sifting through the card. I want to try & be more selective....
