Mike Penner, a Los Angeles Times sportswriter the past 23 years, announced he's a transsexual. He is leaving for a few weeks of vacation and when he (or she) returns he'll be known as "Christine Daniels." Penner has covered the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim beat along with the NFL and had several other roles and titles at the newspaper.
