BYU enters this contest with an 8-4 overall record and a poor 5-7 ATS record. As is their style they are on the north side of the O/U going 8-4 this season. The Cougars started the season off well destroying (#25 Coaches Poll) Texas 41-7 and scoring 150 offensive point in their first four games while giving up an avg 18.75 ppg helping them brake into the AP top 20 by week 5. They were considered a team to recon with and many saw them breaching the top 10 sometime in the season. Week 6 had other plans however as BYU began the first of a four game losing streak, a losing streak that was not expected by the expert analysts nor anyone else for that matter.

Memphis boasts a 9-3 record and a nice 7-4-1 ATS mark. The Tigers also enjoy scoring as they are 7-5 against the O/U number. Memphis' schedule started off tough as they traveled to the Rose Bowl in week 2 to face #11 UCLA as 22 point underdogs. The Tigers rallied back to tie the game in the fourth quarter, but a 33 yard TD pass proved too much 35-42. Week 5 have Memphis travel to #10 Ole Miss as 21 point dogs. Trailing 7-3 at the end of the Third Quarter Ole Miss finally overpowered the Tiger scoring 17 in the final quarter 3-24.

There are a few things that make me take notice when I capped this game, offesive and defensive strengths, common opponents and yes, bowl frequency and records to name a few.

Since 1974 BYU has played in 32 bowl games and an overall record of 13-18-1 and 1 National Championship. Their last bowl appearance was last year losing to Washington 31-16. This year will make the 10th consecutive bowl appearance with a record 6-3 for the last 9. The Cougars avg 463 ypg offensively while allowing 383 ypg on the defensive side. They avg 36 ppg while giving up 25 ppg.

Memphis played in their first bowl game in 1971 defeating San Jose St 28-9. They have appeared in five more bowl contests achieving a 3-3 overall record with their last appearance in 2008. The Tigers offense have avg 423 ypg while yielding 343 defensively. Offensively they have posted 35 ppg and Rank 7th Nationally on Defense avg 18.6 ppg.

Both teams rely on their run game avg 191 and 192 ypg respectively and both defenses have play well against the run. BYU gives up 118 ypg while Memphis 125. BYU has the advantage in the passing game with a 272 to 231 avg.

They have faced Two Common Opponents, Middle Tennessee and Houston. BYU defeated both, @MTU 27-7 and at home vs Houston 33-25. Memphis went 1-1 losing to Houston at home 24-28 and beating MTU at home 36-17.

The line looks correct to me; however I even see it going up a tad before Saturday. As a note of interest, BYU has 69 Softmore, Junior and Senior players on the roster and a coaching staff with recent bowl experience.

All that for this......BYU +1 and under 57.5. BOL
