JOEPA'S UPDATED YTD: 23 - 18 - 2
UNITS: +3.00
Week 3: 13 - 5 - 1
MAC: 5 - 2
Eager to get football week started and gonna violate my own cardinal rule about not wagering for or against your favorite team as I did Saturday for the PSU/Navy game....but we are going to find out how good or bad KSU really is tonight. I don't think they are that bad, but the possible loss of their 6'1' 250# running back would definitely put them at a disadvantage---he hurt him arm in Lexington. Still, their offense and defense showed some flash at KY until two costly 3rd Qtr turnovers turned a relatively close game into what looked like a route until you look inside the stats.
Facts In A Flash
• The Golden Flashes have won their last four games against teams currently in the Mid-American Conference and five of their last seven games overall.
• Kent State surpassed 400 yards of total offense and 35 minutes in time of possession at Kentucky, feats that were only reached once last season.
• Despite sitting out the entire 2011 season, junior Dri Archer scored four touchdowns in his first five quarters of play this season, including a career-long, 47-yard run at Kentucky.
• Sophomore tailback Trayion Durham ran for 87 yards on 16 carries with a career-long 26-yard touchdown at Kentucky.
• Senior quarterback Spencer Keith made his seventh straight start without throwing an interception and recently moved into second place among Kent State's career leaders in completions with 587.
• Junior safety Luke Wollet led both sides with 13 tackles at Kentucky, one week after making his seventh career interception.
• In his first two college games, freshman slot receiver Josh Boyle has made nine grabs for 159 yards and a touchdown.
• Senior Kicker Freddy Cortez ranks second among KSU's career leaders in field goals made with 39.
• The Flashes are outscoring opponents 24-0 in the opening quarter.
Despite being in the same division, the Golden Flashes and Bulls will be facing off for the first time since 2009 and the first time at UB Stadium since 2008. Both teams have an early-season home victory over an FCS opponent and a road setback against a Southeastern Conference opponent. The all-time series between Kent State and Buffalo is tied 9-9. The Bulls won the most recent meeting 9-6 at Dix Stadium in the 2009 season finale.
