    Big Ten thoughts

The Big Ten is the conference I follow most closely, and I think there is some good value to be found on a few games this week. If anybody wants to hear my thoughts, here they are.

    Indiana +28 over Ohio State
I am a huge Buckeyes fan, but I don't see anyway they cover a four td spread, even at home. Indiana struggles defending the pass, Ohio State doesn't throw the ball. They will definitely take some shots down the field in this game, because of what they've seen on film, but expect a steady diet of Boom Herron and Braxton Miller running the ball. Indiana is also pretty good on the d line, two real studs up front. Indiana's freshman qb does a pretty good job taking care of the ball. The only way Ohio State covers this spread is if they get some defensive or special teams scores. I probably won't bet this game myself. I would rather lose money betting on my team then against it. But there is good value here. If I bet it, it will be a game time decision. Take Indiana plus the points. A lot of you bet Indiana last week, which was a week too late. Here's a good chance to get your money back.

    Northwestern +17.5 over Nebraska
Nebraska blew out an emotionally flat Michigan State team last week. Northwestern blew out a bad Indiana squad. Is that the real Nebraska? Nebraska really struggles some times on offense. Taylor Martinez is a great runner, and maybe the worst passer in the conference. He throws off his back leg, instead of stepping into the throw. Persa is back for the Wildcats, and he is the best pure passer in the conference. Northwestern can put some points on the board. Quarterbacks rely on rhythm, and Persa is finding his. Northwestern hangs, and covers.

    Iowa +4 over Michigan
I've been waiting for a while to see the real Wolverines show up. No way their defense has improved this much in just one year. Iowa, even when they're bad, plays with a great deal of discipline on defense. That's how you have to play against Denard Robinson. Vandenburg, Iowa qb, is a pretty good qb. He has not had a breakourt performance this year. He is so due. I really think this could be a money line bet. Iowa is 5-0 at home, 0-3 on the road. Michigan is over-rated. Iowa is always good for one nice upset every year. I think this is it. Take Iowa plus the points, and if you're feeling really ballsy, bet them on the money line.

I know, that's three dogs. Only a fool bets three dogs, right? Use these opinions as you will, and I hope they help someone make some scratch.

I'll be interested in how the Hawkeyes bounce back vs Michigan. Line is confusing... I'd think it'd be a larger spread with the embarrassment Iowa had vs Minnesota. BUT Iowa plays better at home and scores nearly 39 a game, and Michigan struggles vs physical football teams. They'll have their hands full with Coker.

I think you're discounting the Nebraska defense in this one... they'll make Persa one-dimensional, and he really doesn't have the speed to threaten the defense. I think the line is pretty spot on, barring any TMart turnovers. You are so very right about him being the absolutely worst passer I have ever seen!

Not sure about OSU - finally got their offense on track last week, but has not been impressive all season. They're able to run the ball, but this the heralded OSU of the past. Indiana on the other hand, is bad. They could score 21, or lay an egg. Not worth it to find out though.
    NFL 17: 45-47-2 // 48.91% // -10.12
    MMA: 247-332-2 // 42.66% // -6.04
    MLB 17: 151-140-8 // 51.89% // +5.65 ROR // +42.13
    NCAAF 17: 63-49-2 // 56.25% // +6.80

I disagree about iowa michigan, i watched about 3-4 iowa games from start to finish this year, you can really see how good stanzi was and how he made iowa look better than they actually were. iowa offense is not very good, and their defense isnt good either, they give up alot of points to decent to good offenses they have faced... and vs northwestern Colter (running qb) ran all over iowa defense, now you gonna bank on them to stop shoe-lace? Granted Denard is not a great passer but he is decent, and Iowa cant stop the run whether it be a quarterback or a running back.... michigan too talented for iowa....

as for that iowa good for 1 upset a year, look forward to nebraska, last game on their schedule, nebraska is front runners atm to win big 10 with penn state, and they are very capable of turning the ball over and letting bad teams hang around... i think iowa is in for a world of trouble these next 2 games vs michigan & michigan state, both with good defenses and both with a rushing attack...

Right now i think we are gonna get a Michigan vs Penn State big 10 championship game coming our way..

Penn states real test in my opinion comes at seasons end vs whisky, i think they will handle nebraska and ohio state but that 3rd big game in a row for them, and last 2 being road games will be their season maker or breaker... but this defense is good enough i think to win this conference ....

Alabama, not a bad loss on your resume considering they are probably hands down the best team...

as for michigan their real test will be their big rival game with ohio state, throw records out window when that game comes i think ohio state is only team left on michigans schedule that could prevent them a big 10 title game appearance...

      -----

in the northwestern/nebraska game, strongest lean for me is the over, both teams should be able to put up points in this game, if nebraska turns the ball over i could see a cover out of nw. NW needs to score a td in the first quarter if they start the 2nd quarter 14-0 or worse, than this game will turn into a blow out, NW needs to run the football to have a shot here, if they drop back, this could get 52-14 ugly...

      ----

      Ohio state vs indiana

i dont really have an opinion on this game, at first glance i cant see indiana holding a game with anyone in this conference on the road, if they are at home i give them a shot at scoring points... but points are not easy to come by @ ohio state, and i have seen some promise last couple weeks out of the buckeyes, tough spread to predict, i like the under if indiana can contain the run.... havent played alot of indiana football games this year so not to intune with their defense...

Long time follower, just too lazy to log in and post, but wanted to chime in on your thread...

First, couldn't agree more on your thoughts on the battle of NU's. Nebraska will be less than average, and Persa will cause problems but it's going to blow 35-40mph today and as akatdrake pointed out, Nebraskas young defense found it's groove. Most likely a no play for me.

The Michigan Iowa game just seems like a fishy line...Iowa is schizophrenic enough to hang tough, but I'm not sure I could take them. Not buying michigans defense either, hence the large O/U line. Again, probably a no play.

The game that intrigues me the most is Sparty vs Minny. I don't like huge numbers but I think this has a shutout written all over it. MSU's front seven will overwhelm Minnesota early and often. I see this being a 38-0, 42-3 type of game.

Buckeyes roll it up on Hoosiers!
IU's best O player kicked off team at beginning of the week!
tOSU D will score this week as well, i think Hoosiers get shut out! I'm calling for 35-0 final!
          Go Bucks!

In tsun's only true road game, they lost! (NU sux, beating the cats was not that great!)
Sparty shut them down, Iowa D stinks, but i think they outscore overrated um D!!!

I think Neb rolls today too! Bottom of B10N is bad.

I'm hoping for Buckeye/Nebraska rematch in Indy Dec 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:beer2:

          Best of luck today!

I appreciate all your feedback to my thoughts, and it was really good feedback. But I'm sticking to my guns. I got Indiana at +28, and had to settle for Iowa at +4. If things look good there in an hour, I'm jumping on Northwestern at +17. I'm hoping that line moves another half point, so that 17 will make me a winner. Now, Ohio State just has to figure out a way to win this one! Thanks, guys.
