Here is where Kent State’s offense ranks nationally in all major categories. Granted, the Flashes faced one of the top defenses in the nation at Alabama in week one, but Louisiana-Lafayette and Kansas State were average-at-best teams in weeks two and three.

Rushing offense … 114th out of 120 teams, 60.33 yards per game

Rushing yards per carry … 116th (1.9 per attempt)

Passing offense … 116th (98.0 per game)

Scoring offense … 117th (6.33 per game)

Passing efficiency … Dead last at 120th (a 67.3 rating)

First downs … 119th (9.67 per game)

Third-down conversion percentage … 115th (26.42)

Fourth-down conversion percentage … 104th (12.5)

Also, Big blow for KSU defense. Flashes will be without 334-pound run-stuffer Ish Kitchen for at least the next three weeks. Dislocated elbow. Kent State will also debut a few changes along the offensive line when it plays at Ohio University. Redshirt freshman Tom Pizzurro (6-foot-3, 300-pounds) will play in his first game when he becomes the third Golden Flash to start at left guard this season. Fellow redshirt freshman Terrell Johnson (6-4, 299) returns to the starting lineup, but at right guard after starting the season’s first two games at left guard.

Hazell hopes the moves will make the Flashes more physical and faster along the offensive line, hopefully jump starting a running game that is averaging just 2.6 yards per rush after four games.
