First, I feel that the catch that started the game tying drive was incomplete. The ball shifted and when he regained possession, his right shoulder was out of bounds, I'm fine with that. I'm also fine with the 15 yd penalty they awarded UNC.
Ok, so now we have UNC run a play and get stopped in the middle of the field, clock running. While the clock was running down, the kicking team was somehow foolishly ran onto the field, instead of just spiking the ball. So now, they started pulling them off, snapped the ball and spiked it. Refs ruled the game was over, but upon review they allowed one, one second play. However, UNC had 15 players on the field; they only assessed a 5 yd penalty on them. Now, with a false start under a minute to go, there's a 10 second run off. How is there no such penalty here? Instead of running off your players, you can just snap the ball with any amount of players and only be penalized 5 yards and not the subsequent time run off?!?! Ok, fine whatever.
Now, the worst call. The personal foul on Tennessee.. how is that not assessed as one untimed play in the 4th qtr? If something happens at the end of the half, is it one untimed play before half or is it assessed in the 3rd qtr? Giving UNC the ball at the 13 was ridiculous. Also, if UNC won the flip, they would've pushed Tenn to the 40, even more ridiculous. I watch my more than fair share of football, can anyone explain to me that the refs were correct in what they did?
