I see quite a few people wagering this game. By NO MEANS should anyone cancel or follow this advice, please just incorporate it. I am on my second set of season tickets to the Hurricanes. I watch ALOT of Cane Football. My GF works in the Athletic Compliance Department. I have some 1st hand knowledge and information, that I would LOVE to share.... as well as take any questions on the game today and in the future.
Im not pretending to be an expert, but I definately have more to add than just a few memorized box scores and headlines.
With that said..... Here comes a short story long:
Personally I think Morris is a better QB than Harris. MUCH stronger arm, great field awareness, emotional leader. I think the future of Miami football is better off with Morris losing that sought after red-shirt to an unfortunate injury. Its odd watching this position on TV. Morris and Harris have relatively the same build, but the ball that comes out of Morris is like watching a stationary pitching machine. That ball just JUMPS outta no where.
There are "FIRE COACH SHANNON" shirts littering the co-eds and alumni seats in the home games. That kind of chit is terrible, but it does show in a lack of fan support at home - it WILL translate in Atlanta. I personally think this whole mind-set is horrible. As a fellow collegiate athlete, unconditonal support is really all a player wants to hear. Anything else is annoying noise, a distraction, and psychologically it will unknowingly translate into a players emotion. Its basic human nature that adults have struggle dealing with (seperation of emotion and fact) - so lets not get into a teenager sorting that out.
It'll be interesting to see how the Miami WRs handle the hot ball that comes outta Morris' arm. NIGHT AND DAY above the velocity of Harris' ball. Yes the 1st team hands-corp has had another week of catching those passes, but young QBs arent known for finess (sp?). Squeezing passes into tight coverage will result in a 'throw it harder mentality'. Something Hankerson (already shaky hands) wont handle well. Let alone the wheel routes that the Canes run ALOT of. A RB down field has no chance of catching those missles.
I really dont think Miami is that good of a football team. Last year they started a few games undefeated, beat Oklahoma, and the media went nuts. let it be known that (Yikes, dont quote me...but I really think OK is 2-7 on the road in the last 2or3 seasons) the win at home against OK is a joke (they were without Bradford.
So ESPN does a 30 and 30, anyone thats been in jail comes out and says "I got swagger", some hot girl invents some T-shirts: "The U invented Swagger", and before anyone knew it... The University of Miami was EXPECTED to be a top 5 team in the nation. This is a team that was OVERLOADED with fresh/soph.
YES - fast forward to this year, they were supposed to be better because they could build off of '09. But I never thought they were that good last year. I think they were crowned before they sat at the table.
I know that the ACC is a disaster, and GATk is playing with a back up IN A TRIPLE OPTION OFFENCE. I know that is hard. But GATk has some extra time to get their timing down, and this is a WHOOGE revenge game for them. Im not as versed in GATk's ins and outs, but I do know that last weeks loss to VATk was bad for them. I still they they control thier own destiny and this game, this W, means more to them than to Miami.
I took GATk, ATS and ML.
Good Luck to all..... sorry about the rant, Im thinking about dropping my 9-5 engineering job and doing something more expressive:laughing:
