SMU +12' 3 Units
There are a few angles I like in this game. I like the motivation and excitement surrounding the SMU program. This is their first bowl in 25 years and they are making a big deal out of it for the university. They should have the stronger fan support. June Jones is also very comfortable on the island and should help to reduce distractions for his club. Part of that will also be done by the fact that he is the star of his team and will be able to enjoy his media attention. June is also familiar with Chris Ault, Kapernick and Nevada having beat them with less than stellar qb's at hawaii the last two years. Chris Ault also has not had a lot of success in recent years in bowl games.
I also think the 2 RB's will be a little bit of a problem. Tua and Lippincott were talented and experienced and there will definitely be a dropoff. The punishing running style of Tua compliments Kapernick and really could have worn down a SMU team that has had it's struggles stopping the run. I also think the recent suspensions are a sign that the team is not happy about going to hawaii. I think SMU does enough to hang around and possibly have a drive at the end of the game with the game on the line.
