    Random question about ncaa football

I never really thought of it until today... but???

when a player in college football has posession of the football and that players knee is touching the ground they are considered down at that point.

ok so everytime they kick fieldgoals or extrapoints the place holder always catches the snap from center than places the ball down for the kicker to kick.

    Question
once he catches the ball and gains posession why is the play not whistled dead right there because his knee is always on the ground?

Well the more I drink, the more I question why I took Arizona on the moneyline. I also wonder why players insist on fumbling inside other teams' 5 yard line. Baffles me. And still don't have your answer, but I do have more questions.

The reason is because of Rule 4-1-3(b, exception). This rule creates the exception to the ball being declared dead when a player's knee is down touching the ground. The exception applies only to the HOLDER when an offensive player kicks or simulates kicking the ball for a place kick (Field Goal). By rule the ball may be advanced, kicked or passed. The holder may place his knee on the ground and the ball is not declared dead. :sm:

I can answer that one......no the next one ought to go down smoother! :beer2:

When anyone can find an answer to this one, I'm sure that former Cleveland Browns running backs Ernest Byner and Kevin Mack would love to have their picture beside the definition/answer.

I am not sure the correct wordage, but think of this...

On a kickoff, the ball is the kicker's so-to-speak, right? Every once in a while if the wind is too much, they will have a coverage man "hold" it, he is not considered "down," like you are talking about.

I think the fg/pa attempts are along the same way, the ball is transferred to the kicker where he elects to have someone "hold" it, or legally, he can drop-kick it over the goal - like you saw Flutie do a few years ago with the Patriots (I think). With the holder, that acts as another option, so-to-speak, where the kicker has an option to transfer the ball to the holder...

Does that make any sense? I think it boils down to "speshil t3@ms @r3 d1ff3r3nt..."

if thats the special rule than why is the "Holder" allowed to get up and advance the ball?

Dukies...because if you re-read to rule....the holder is an exception to the rule and "By rule the ball may be advanced, kicked or passed.......". Therefore the knee down rule does not apply in this special case.

i understand why he can based on the rule, im just basically pointing out something that doesnt go along with everything else....

                        kinda like these questions here........

If you try to fail, and then succeed, which have you done?

Why is there an expiration date on sour cream?

If most car accidents occur within five miles of home, why doesn't everyone just move 10 miles away?

If anything is possible, is it possible that nothing is possible?

Why do you park on a driveway but drive on a parkway?

How does Hawaii have an interstate?

How are packages on a ship called "cargo" when packages on a car are called "shipments"?

If a convenient store is open 24 hours a day seven days a week then why are there locks on the doors?

See what im getting at? if they just had a rule like nfl where u have to be touched by an oposing player than the question couldnt be asked...
