Oh man, I'm going to try to tackle this thread tomorrow and then have Flyers rip me a new one and call me a know-it-all. I can't wait!!!

I think their are some very good points made here and I think there is some very stupid points made too (from both sides).

The SEC is hands down the best conference for football in America. It's not really debatable, IMHO. The reason - the depth. Could certain Big 10 or Pac 10 teams beat the LSU's. Florida's and Georgia's of the world on any given day... Without a doubt they could. But you also can say with confidence that Washington might not win more than 2 games in conference play in the SEC. Arizona State would finish in the lower tier of the SEC as well. They just don't match up physically. Kentucky is a better team than Arizona State, IMHO and I think (not sure) that Kentucky is under .500 in conference.

The non-SEC guys are right, the gap is not THAT great, and LSU is not the juggernaut gay ass ESPN made them out to be all season long (which is the real problem with some people's perceptions). Corso may be an idiot, but has been spot on with some thing this season and one of them is that he's been saying LSU is overrated for WEEKS AND WEEKS (especially their defense).

We love who we love, that's what makes these debates fun!!!

Was that me being rational??? Huh??? :dunno:

    GO BIG EAST!!!!

Not sure, but rumors are that 90% of the ESPN staff tested positive for having Laurinitas' DNA in their system, if ya know what I'm trying to say...

The real bottom line I THINK is that the CFB game/landscape is just completely not what it was 20 years ago. 20 years ago, Nebraska, Oklahoma and the likes could give out like 85 scholarships every year, which meant that a great QB who may not play there right away, would still rather go and sit on the bench for 3 years, but have the chance to go to an Orange Bowl there than lose 77-0 every week as the starter at Iowa State, KU, Missouri etc... They cut the scholarships back to whatever it is like 60 or so, and now those 25 kids who went to Nebraska before and were great players, are ending up at places like Kansas, Missouri, Wake Forest etc.. And it has taken time for those players to get into programs like Missouri etc...and to slowly build up those programs. I think this season is going to be the norm from now on. There weren't many upsets in the past because there were about 15 great teams and 80 lousy ones who had no chance of beating anyone. Also, those top tier schools don't have the depth they used to in the old days when the 3rd stringers for Nebraska could beat KU 70-0 if they had to. Now, Good coaches will surface at programs like Mizzou, Kansas, Oregon, Kentucky because they know they can be competitive in the current landscape.........................I think it is going to be nuts year in and year out and at some point, we won't consider Kentucky beating LSU as big an upset as we do now. They are going to be forced to go to a playoff at some point because of this. I just don't see how after 2 or 3 more years of this that they can fight it off.

I still don't understand that or the fact that "people won't travel during a playoff." The other bowls can still be kept and the playoff games can all have bowl names. And don't give me "people will care less about the lesser bowls then" because, in reality, who gives a **** about 90% of those bowls anyway? Are we really that worried that people won't care what Middle Tennessee State and Navy do on Dec. 13? Give me a break. And people WILL travel to playoff games, as people that live in the area of each bowl will attend the playoff games. College football gets a large enough draw to have that happen. And if that is the real worry, then why not have the first round or two at the higher seed's home field, and still let Blowjobs.com put their name on the game?

And don't cite tradition either because tradition went out the window long ago. Having Big 12 and SEC teams play in the Rose Bowl is awesome tradition.....

                      totally agree.

if you think about it, bowl games no matter what will draw audience.

                      even furnituregallery.com bowls etc... LOL

mostly due to local economy, and people travelling for their schools, all the bowl games are during Christmas/New Year's break so I don't get the bitching either. College kids dont need an extensive excuse for a road trip

totally agree...i mean OSU has enough alumni in about every city to fill games no matter where they were played and the same goes for a lot of teams. I am absolutely flabbergasted (great word..lol) when i go some of these places for games and see the amount of buckeyes. I mean, at Washington this year, i was told by several husky fans that outside of Oregon fans who make the drive up, they couldn't remember any visiting team with that many fans in their stadium.

The argument is always that teams "won't know where they are playing" so tickets and logistics are difficult. Especially getting tickets into the hands of people and deciding who gets what tickets.
