    NCAAF Week 4 trends


    South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier takes his Gamecocks to Baton Rouge this Saturday to face No. 2 LSU in one of the better matches on the Week 4 menu. USC got off to a great start on the road, upsetting Georgia as 5 ½-point dogs, 16-12 two weeks ago. The Tigers blew out their first two opponents by a combined score of 93-7.


    TEXAS A&M at MIAMI

    Texas A&M has struggled against quality teams on the road, failing to cash at a 13-3-1 clip. The Aggies are just 10-18-1 on the road the past five years and 5-12-1 as short-enders away from home. Miami has failed to get the green in seven of its last 10 when facing quality teams at home.

    OKLAHOMA at TULSA

    Oklahoma bashed Tulsa at home last year, 58-0. The Sooners have cashed 10 of its last 13 as favorites and nine of 14 on the highway.

    SYRACUSE at LOUISVILLE

    Louisville is 15-3 ATS at home of late and it has 'covered' nine of its last 11 Big East tests at Papa John's Stadium. Syracuse has stumbled in 10 of its last 14 ATS versus conference foes and in five of its last six Big East openers. The Orange are 5-15-1 ATS on the conference road.

    ILLINOIS at INDIANA

    Indiana has won and 'covered' four of five versus Illinois at Bloomington. The Hoosiers are just 12-27-1 ATS in Big 10 play and they have dropped 18 of 21 ATS when playing the second of back-to-back home games. The Illini have flunked 20 of 33 tests as dogs and are just 11-21 ATS in conference action.

    DUKE at NAVY

    Navy has won and cashed three straight against Duke. The Midshipmen have failed in eight of their last dozen as home favorites while the Blue Devils are 7-2 ATS against non-conference foes away from home.

    BAYLOR at BUFFALO

    Baylor isn't favored often, but it has taken advantage in eight of 12 tries. Buffalo has flopped in five of its last six non-conference outings at home.

    KENT ST at AKRON

    Kent State has 'covered' three of four at Akron. The Golden Flashes are 14-9-1 ATS versus MAC foes on the road. The Zips were just 1-7 ATS against conference rivals last year and just 11-16 ATS in their last 27 at home.

    ARMY at BC

    Boston College is 7-1-1 ATS in its last nine chances at Chestnut Hill.

    MIAMI (O) at COLORADO

    Miami (O) is 1-6 as non-conference pups of less than 17 points. Colorado has come up short in eight of its last 11 ATS at home outside the Big-12.

    BALL ST at NEBRASKA

    Nebraska is 7-3-1 recently as favorites and had cashed six of seven in Lincoln prior to last week's battle with USC.

    AIR FORCE at BYU

    BYU has bounced back to win and cash three straight against Air Force after failing to get the green in five of seven meetings. The Cougars have also 'covered' seven of nine versus the high-flying Falcons at home. BYU has cashed six of seven at home and nine of 11 as favorites. However, the Cougars are 2-11 as home chalk off back-to-back road tests.

    WASHINGTON at UCLA

    Washington snapped a five-game series losing skid when it upset UCLA last year as three-point home dogs, 29-19. The Huskies had posted a 0-7-1 spread mark against the Bruins before getting the green in the past two clashes. The Bruins are 11-5 as home favorites and they have cashed 10 of 13 Pac-10 tests at the Rose Bowl. The favorite in this conference rivalry has come up short in five of the past six encounters.

    GEORGIA at ALABAMA

    Georgia is 8-4-1 ATS on the road, 5-1-1 as dogs and 6-2 as road dogs. The Bulldogs have cashed three of four versus Alabama, though this is the first meeting since 2003.

    FLORIDA at OLE MISS

    Florida has struggled on the road (4-8-1 ATS), especially as favorites (4-13). The defending BCS champs are also 0-6 as conference road favorites of more than 12 points. However, the Gators have 'covered' six of their last seven road openers. Mississippi has been rock solid as home short-enders (9-4).

    NORTHWESTERN at OHIO ST

    Northwestern has lost four straight at Columbus by an average of 30.5 points. The Wildcats are 14-0 ATS the week before facing Michigan. Ohio State has cashed 14 of its past 21 at home and is 17-5-2 ATS at The Horseshoe versus Big-10 competition.

    PENN ST at MICHIGAN

    Michigan has 'covered' six of eight versus Penn State and won the last eight encounters straight up. The Nittany Lions were 2-6 ATS against conference foes last year while the Wolverines cashed at a 6-1-1 clip. Penn State has dropped six straight Big 10 openers ATS.

    TEXAS TECH at OKLAHOMA ST

    Texas Tech has dominated this series (7-2-1 ATS, 7-3 SU), though it has lost in its last two trips to Stillwater. Oklahoma State is 18-10 ATS at home but just 5-10-1 overall against conference competition.

    MICHIGAN ST at NOTRE DAME

    Michigan State has 'covered' eight of 10 against Notre Dame and five straight in South Bend. The Irish have failed to get the money in six of their last eight at home and are 4-12-1 ATS in their last 17 overall. The Spartans have come up short in 11 of their last 16 on the road SU.

    MEMPHIS at UCF

    Memphis has failed to cash six straight conference openers. The Tigers have also floundered in eight of 12 on the road ATS versus conference foes. Central Florida is 8-4 ATS at home in conference play. However, the Knights are 1-6 ATS as favorites versus an opponent with revenge. UCF won at Memphis last year as 2 ½-point favorites, 26-24.

    GEORGIA TECH at VIRGINIA

    Virginia has 'covered' four straight versus Georgia Tech at home. The Yellow Jackets are 2-9 as conference road favorites of three to 20 points. The Cavaliers have cashed three straight as home dogs and at a 7-4-1 pace versus conference rivals at home. The series visitor is 1-7-1 ATS in the last nine showdowns.

    COLORADO ST at HOUSTON

    Colorado State has dropped 19 of its last 26 spread decisions on the highway. Houston cashed six of seven at home last year and six of nine when favored.

    ARIZONA at CALIFORNIA

    California will be out for revenge after losing last year to Arizona as 13 ½-point road favorites, 24-20, snapping a three-game series 'cover' run. The Golden Bears are 6-1 as favorites of 17 points or less with revenge under Coach Jeff Tedford. However, they are 1-5 ATS when playing the second of back-to-back home games. The Wildcats have 'covered' 10 of their last 15 as underdogs and five of six on artificial turf.

    NIU at IDAHO

    Northern Illinois is 8-3 ATS against non-conference competition on the road. The Huskies have also 'covered' five of six when playing the first of back-to-back contests on the highway. Idaho has cashed four of five non-conference clashes at home.

    TEMPLE at BGSU

    Temple shocked Bowling Green last year as 14-point home dogs, 28-14. The Owls are 1-7-1 ATS against MAC foes on the road. They have failed in 10 of 12 as dogs versus an opponent with revenge. The Falcons have dropped five in a row ATS coming off a bye. They are just 2-11-1 as favorites and 5-13 ATS against MAC foes. Before last year's upset, BGSU had outscored Temple 140-23 in the two previous mismatches.

    ECU at WEST VIRGINIA

    East Carolina has 'covered' 11 of 14 on the road and four of five versus non-conference rivals. West Virginia is 5-8 ATS outside the Big East at home.

    IOWA ST at TOLEDO

    Iowa State is 3-13 ATS in the first of back-to-back road games. However, the Cyclones have clicked in 11 of 13 ATS the week before meeting Nebraska. Toledo has cashed 18 of its past 25 at home.

    NORTH CAROLINA at USF

    North Carolina has been solid as road dogs (12-4). South Florida is 10-6-1 as home chalk and 6-3 ATS when facing a non-conference opponent.

    MARYLAND at WAKE FOREST

    Maryland has won and 'covered' seven of its last eight against Wake Forest. The lone blemish came last season when they lost as 1 ½-point home favorites, 38-24. The Terrapins have won and cashed four straight at Winston Salem and they are 15-9 ATS on the ACC road.

    CLEMSON at NC ST

    Clemson has cashed three of four against North Carolina State overall and four of five at Raleigh. However, the Tigers have dropped six of their last seven as road favorites and eight straight as double-digit road chalk. The Wolfpack is 7-18 ATS at home and 3-6-1 as home short-enders. They have failed at a 7-16-1 clip versus conference foes at home.

    MARSHALL at CINCINNATI

    Marshall is 5-15 ATS away and 1-7 in its last eight as underdogs. The Thundering Herd have also dropped four straight non conference battles ATS. Conversely, Cincinnati is 5-1-1 ATS of late at home and 4-1 outside the Big East.

    KENTUCKY at ARKANSAS

    Kentucky has cashed 15 of 24 conference road clashes and five straight SEC openers. Arkansas has come up short in nine of its last 13 at home ATS.

    NEW MEXICO ST at AUBURN

    New Mexico State is 6-12 ATS on the road and 1-3 ATS away from home when facing quality teams. Auburn has dropped seven of 10 spread decisions at home outside the SEC.

    UCONN at PITT

    Connecticut is 0-8 ATS when facing quality teams on the road and it has come up short in nine of its last 10 as short-enders away from home. Pittsburgh is 7-3 ATS versus Big East foes at home and it has 'covered' nine of 12 as Heinz Field favorites.

    WYOMING at OHIO

    Ohio has cashed six of its last nine at home while Wyoming has floundered in seven of nine on the road ATS.

    RICE at TEXAS

    Texas has trashed Rice in the past two showdowns by a combined score of 103-17. However, the Owls have managed to get the green in two of their last three visits to Austin. The Longhorns are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 home appearances.

    WASH ST at USC

    USC has cashed three of its last four against Washington State. The Trojans are 16-8 versus Pac-10 competition at home. The Cougars have flopped in six of their last nine as road pups.

    SOUTH CAR at LSU

    South Carolina has strung together seven straight ATS road wins. The Gamecocks have also 'covered' nine of 12 on the conference highway and six of nine away from home when facing quality teams. LSU is just 3-7 ATS versus quality teams at Baton Rouge and 3-9 when tackling a conference rival at home. However, the Tigers are 8-3-2 recently as favorites.

    IOWA at WISCONSIN

    Iowa failed to cash seven of eight conference games last year while Wisconsin was 6-1 ATS in Big-10 play. The Hawkeyes are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games with the Badgers and they have 'covered' two in a row in Madison. Wisconsin has 'covered' 14 of 20 at home and 12 of 17 as favorites at Camp Randall Stadium. The Badgers have also clicked in five of their last six ATS when facing a quality team at home.

    SAN JOSE ST at UTAH ST

    San Jose State is 6-1 in its last seven tries as favorites. Utah State has slipped in six of its last eight conference outings ATS.

    SMU at TCU

    TCU hasn't dropped three in a row ATS since 2004. The Horned Frogs are 9-2 ATS at home and 9-3 ATS when facing a conference foe. SMU has come away with the cash in three of its last four versus TCU, though it has dropped three of four ATS in Fort Worth.

    PURDUE at MINNESOTA

    Purdue has 'covered' seven of its last eight against Minnesota and three of four at the Metrodome. The Boilermakers have also won the last eight series clashes SU. The Boilers are only 8-15-1 ATS on the Big-10 road. The Gophers are 3-7 in their last 10 as home dogs.

    UTAH at UNLV

    Utah has won eight straight against UNLV (7-1 ATS) and cashed three of four at Sam Boyd Stadium. The Utes are 7-4 in their last 11 as favorites. The Rebels have dropped 12 of 14 as dogs of less than seven points.

    OREGON at STANFORD

    Oregon has 'covered' five straight series meeting against Stanford. The Ducks are 15-10 ATS on the Pac-10 road. The Cardinal have come up short in eight of 11 as underdogs and are just 3-9-1 ATS versus conference foes at Palo Alto.

    OREGON ST at ARIZONA ST

    Arizona State is 5-2 ATS of late against Oregon State and it has 'covered' four straight at home. The Beavers have squeezed out eight ATS wins in 12 tries on the road versus conference foes.

      Coach Bill Callahan has yet to capture the fancy of the rabid Nebraska football nation. He could take a step in the right direction Saturday night if he pilots the Cornhuskers to a win at home over No.1 USC.

      I think it's more like Nebraska will take out some frustration on Ball St. Saturday afternoon.

                Kinda leaning towards Ball St ..

                Lots of points for Cornhuskers to cover
                Ball St. will not be rattled on the big stage.
