Akron Star Forward Accused Of Assaulting Women's Team Player
    Deadspin / Monday 8:31pm

The University of Akron police are investigating whether Zips senior forward Demetrius Treadwell assaulted Sina King, a member of Akron's women's basketball team, early Saturday morning, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. Both Treadwell—who was suspended from the team indefinitely on Sunday—and King were preseason All-MAC selections.

The Beacon Journal's story is based on a two-page police report filed after a complaint by King, but the details are scant:

According to the police report, Treadwell assaulted King during an altercation at her home on Spicer Street about 4 a.m. Saturday. The assault left King, 23, with "apparent minor" injuries.

Police took photographs of the injuries as well as a photo of a text message connected to the altercation, officers noted in their report.

The two-page report does not include a description of King's injuries nor does it reveal the events leading up to the alleged altercation. An officer's narrative only says that officers were sent at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday to the James Rhodes Arena to meet with athletic director Tom Wistrcill "regarding an assault that occurred between two university athletes."

The Akron's men's basketball coach "sounded prepared to go on without his senior forward," according to the Beacon Journal. It's the second time in three years that the Zips—who kicked off their season with a win against USC Friday night—have lost their best player due to an off-court incident. Two seasons ago they lost star Alex Abreu right before the NCAA tournament due to his arrest on felony drug trafficking charges. Abreu eventually plead guilty.
