    TWO KENT BB INJURIES

Holt could miss the next month…
    Thursday, November 26th, 2009 | General Discussions | DavidCarducci

Kent State is already playing without Chris Singletary following surgery to repair the torn meniscus in his right knee. Now the Golden Flashes men’s basketball team may be forced to spend the next month without another key member of its rotation.

True freshman point guard Randal Holt injured his knee in Wednesday’s loss at South Florida. The early guess from KSU’s training staff is that the injury will require surgery that could keep Holt out for close to four weeks.

    UPDATE (5:29 p.m.):

Holt’s injury is believed to be a meniscus tear, similar to the one suffered by Chris Singletary. The freshman has yet to have an MRI exam on the knee, but even after an MRI, players with his type of injury usually still need arthroscopic surgery to confirm the injury, its location and to either cut or repair the tear.

With Holt out, Rod Sherman is going to be forced to log more minutes. Cameron Joyce’s role could also be expanded, and Mike McKee may be forced to spend some time at the point. This isn’t a good situation for KSU. In Singletary and Holt, KSU is now missing two of its top three ballhandlers.

    Surgery goes well for Singletary

I just received an email update from KSU men’s basketball contact Todd Vatter regarding Chris Singletary’s knee surgery. He said the surgery went well. They removed the torn flap of meniscus and it was toward the back of the knee, which usually means it should not cause him many problems.

They expect Singletary to miss 2-to-4 weeks. He will start rehabilitation this weekend. According to team spokesman Todd Vatter, the location of the tear was toward the back of the knee, which can be considered a best-case scenario causing fewer problems.

Singletary is scheduled to begin rehabilitating the injured knee this weekend.

Kent State will play at Xavier Friday, Dec. 4, exactly two weeks after the surgery. While expecting Singletary to be back for that game may be overly optimistic, the two-to-four-week timetable could make a return for the Dec. 12 nationally televised game at Pittsburgh possible.

Stretching the timetable out to four weeks could have Singletary back on the floor for a Dec. 20 home game against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. In that case, he would miss six games – Wednesday’s 70-61 win at Youngstown State, Sunday’s game with Rochester at the M.A.C. Center, and the four-game stretch on the road at South Florida (Nov. 25), Morehead State (Nov. 29), Xavier and PIttsburgh.

The good news for KSU is Singletary should be back with plenty of time to be ready for the start of the Mid-American Conference season Jan. 9 at Ohio University.
