Hey stif, trying to understand your last post, when you say 'squares' do you mean the "the people in the know" so to speak.. or do you mean the people who take the underdog? I've always thought it was the former, but could be wrong.
Also how do you know 62% are on Penn this game?Comment

Personally (and i haven't been around all that much lately to read everyone's posts, as i've been on a semi break till bases), I don't see a problem with the posts MajorWVU has been starting.
Granted, the unit size of 80 units on one play here is ridiculous, but if you look past that to the plays, the ones I have read (NJ Nots the other night, and this one tonight) were solid winners, with no use of the "L" word, and no "*******-ish" chest thumping behavior when the plays won.
I know what some of you vet posters are saying here with the posting style not being "status-quo", but at the same time, not everyone has the same way of getting their point across, and as long as guys aren't breaking rules, I think it's good to encourage contributions from more than the same old core of posters we've had for years rather than discourage them.Comment

Yeah...I don't think anyone was really busting on thisguy at all. (except Dan with his red phone thing...not sure why he did that). But then WW comes in with actual conversaton about the game, and the guy comes back with a chest-thumping 80 unit raise. Please.
The only thing I think is lame is when he opens up a new thread for every game he wins. That could get old after a while. lol

Gotta disagree there. I think thats exactly what is ruffling peoples feathers. He starts a thread after every win saying how great he is. (Still waiting for last nights Celtics thread though, lol). And he actually went into WW's thread after he lost with Penn St with this gem...
He's gotta calm down on that ****, and it's all good.... New cappers is a good thing!
As for the records thing like BigBaller is saying...yeah, I don't know...it is a rule, but very few seem to keep records anymore... I guess it's a choice if you want to or not...not necessarily a rule. I guess that should be changed on that sticky. I like to, because it keeps track of my wins/losses, and is the whole point of this site for me...tracking my own plays, and tailing others who are on a roll. But I myself do find it harder to tail/fade in sports that I do not follow as much as NHL/MLB/NFL/CFL, because you rarely see write-ups and/or records on this site anymore....well, less than you used to anyway...but that's just me.
Cheers...!Last edited by JohnnyMapleLeaf; 02-06-2009, 10:13 AM.Comment

lmao at the whole thing. some dude trying to be the man at a posting forum......
guy is being a 100% ass......good capping skills aside. if that is what this site wants to become then so be it. we'll all just start new threads every time we win and go into other people's threads and bash them when they lose. also, if you are going to start threads when you win, shouldn't you start one when your play gets wiped out and run over like road kill...:dunno:...to let everyone know you got your ass kicked and apparently it wasn't easy like sunday morning....
the irony in this is stif is taking up for the guy and it's exactly why he personally almost quit posting a couple months ago with what wvu did in W2's thread.......:ohman:
whatever........on a positive note....great to see some guys back around again like vazman, nikkins, emv (daggggggggggerrrrrrrrrrrrrr)....:beerbang: :beerbang:Last edited by FlyersFan; 02-06-2009, 11:11 AM.I am the M'bah a'Flyers Fan !Comment

Flyers - please note my "disclaimer" of sorts, saying I hadn't been around much. I also stated I "didn't see" anything wrong with his posts. I never claimed to have read, or agree with every post he ever made....just that I didn't personally see any that were that terrible as of last night when I wrote that. I also did not see him bash anyone until the example JML pointed out in this thread, if that's what you're referring to as being ironic. So really, it isn't ironic, because i was unaware it, or any other attack that may have happened, existed.
On a related note, I saw posts last week about this CBB forum being slow, to generalize what was said. Now why do you guys think that is? Maybe the economy, sure. Maybe a lack of interest in sports betting period now that NFL is over. Maybe people have stopped posting/playing due to stricter gov't regulations. All of those things are probably contributing factors.
But there is a 4th contributing factor too, imho. Every time a new guy signs up here and makes a post, unless he tows the line and is exactly what us vets have come to expect, he takes ****....and alot of it, and is done posting in a week or two. I don't see how this does the forum any more good than allowing people to run wild and post anything they want, and for *******s to overrun the place. The only way this site is going to get bigger and better is to allow it to grow.
Attention whores and *******s will surface, and will be tossed to the curb when they break rules, or just quit posting when they don't get the attention they desire, but unfortunately i think that has to be allowed to happen on its own, so that new guys aren't afraid to jump in and post, knowing they're gonna take a beating from the first vet poster who doesn't like what they have to say.
Ok, so back to the points at hand. I did not see the post in WW's thread, and that is just plain wrong. I did not, nor would i ever defend a guy who made such a statement. Truth be told, I come here, post my plays, and i'm on my way right now. I may browse a few threads in the afternoon/early evening, but i am certainly not sitting here policing everyone like I used to be able to do. I simply no longer have the time or interest.
With that being said, either later tonight or tomorrow maybe I will get a chance to comb thru the threads in question here and see if any warnings or action is required....or maybe another ref could get to it in the meantime?
i also agree that keeping a record is important, and that is a great point. I, however, am currently guilty of not keeping one because quite frankly i've lost interest in seeing how poorly i'm doing in basketball this year, especially CBB. I realize this sets a piss poor example, and i've thought about it....and i am not sure what to do. There's no way i'm going back and adding up all my plays, cause that would take an eternity....and i do not have the time nor interest in wasting half a day doing that. So my other options are to start over as of say Feb 1 (unfair), or not post at all.
This is why I have stopped posting a record. I will start again for the tourney, NBA playoffs, and for bases, because those are solid starting points....but to just start a new record in the middle of a season, ignoring any earlier losses is no better of an example than just not posting a record at all.
But, a new guy who only has a few plays posted, should easily be able to go back and add them up....so i DO agree with your point BigBaller. Problem is that none of us can force a guy to keep a record. There are many vet posters who don't and never did to my knowledge, and get away with it....so unless they are made to keep one, i would be a hypocrite if i started warning/banning newbies who failed to keep a record, not to mention i would have to then also ban/warn some vet posters as well to keep it fair.Last edited by Stifler's Mom; 02-06-2009, 04:30 PM.Comment

Good points Stif. I do think newbies should be cut a bit of slack, and I was trying to do that here. Then, hopefully they take in the vibe of the site...leaving the bull**** behind. Hell, I think most of the vets probably chest-thumped a bit when first joining this or the previous site, before acclimatizing to the environment (I know i did years ago...lol).
I hate to criticize...but I think one problem is the lack of presence by Mods. I hate to say that, with the site motto and all, but there seems to be 20 mods on this site, but very few are regulars, posting everyday, and browsing through all the threads in a daily manner.
It can essentially be the inmates running the jail from time to time (mostly non-football forums or non-football times of year). From my current experiences involved in other forums, the mod presence is much more in your face, every thread, every day, and problems like this are nipped in the bud right away, or the new posters can be counselled and welcomed in a respectable way, BEFORE they are ripped to shreds by posters...instead of when a mod strolls in a couple days later. I had that bobbyorr prick all over me for months before a post in the tennis forum (of all places) got him attended too. lol. I'm not sure it SHOULD be needed, people should be adults. But it does stop bull****. And it does help attract new "regulars". JMO.
No disrespect meant, but just an observation, as I am a member of a couple different sports forums, and it is something I've noticed. There is a higher ratio of mods here, but much less of activity, and setting examples by posting writeups, keeping records, interacting with new posters...etc, etc. can only GROW Predictem.
Again...this is mostly a non-football problem, cause those threads are always hopping. lol!
Still my favourite site!! Want it to be the best it can be! :thumbs:Last edited by JohnnyMapleLeaf; 02-06-2009, 05:02 PM.Comment
