• Buffalo, the MAC East Division’s top team will play at Western Michigan, the top team in the West, on Tuesday night. The Bulls are coming off a 76-64 win at Miami on Saturday. UB was led by Andy Robinson who scored 16 points... At 4-1, the Bulls are off to their best start in MAC play since joining the conference in 1998... The Bulls are looking to win three straight MAC road games for the first time since the 2003-04 season... Two areas the Bulls have shown significant improvement this season are turnovers and opponent field goal percentage. The Bulls are averaging 14.1 turnovers per game (10.6 in MAC play). It is the lowest number of turnovers they have averaged since joining the conference in 1998. The Bulls have committed 11 or fewer turnovers in five of the last six games...Western Michigan is and coming off a 53-45 win at Eastern Michigan on Saturday. The Broncos are led by David Kool who is averaging 16.5 points per game... In MAC games, the Broncos are tops in scoring defense (52.4), scoring margin (+9.6), rebounding offense (36.8), blocked shots (5.60), turnover margin (+3.20) and defensive rebounds (26.60). WMU is also second in field goal percentage defense (.366), assist/turnover ratio (1.04) and three-pointers per game (7.60)... This season, the Broncos have held 11 teams under 40 percent shooting in a game, including six straight and seven of the last eight. Overall, WMU is holding teams to .406 overall and .310 from behind the arc.

• The Golden Flashes are looking to snap a three game losing streak, their longest in MAC play since a four game slide at the end of the 2003-04 season...Kent State is coming off a 68-54 loss at Akron on Saturday in which the Golden Flashes erased a 14-point half time deficit before faltering down the final six minutes... Kent State has won 12 straight against EMU, tying for the longest winning streak by one MAC team over another... Kent State ranks 20th in the nation in three-point FG percentage defense allowing just 30.2 percent on the season...Eastern Michigan has lost three straight following an overtime win over Central Michigan on Jan. 13. The Eagles are coming off a 53-45 loss at home to Western Michigan on Saturday. Brandon Bowdry is averaging a team best 15.8 ppg and has led the Eagles in scoring the last seven games and 14 times this season... EMU Head Men’s Basketball Coach Charles E. Ramsey will miss his second game in a row, when the Eagles play Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Kent State University. Ramsey is suffering from a benign case of vertigo that also forced him to miss Saturday’s, Jan. 24, contest versus Western Michigan.
Also: Kent State leads the MAC in scoring @ 68.6ppg, while EMU is 10th @ 60.4ppg. EMU is 9th in FG% @ 41% while KSU ranks 1st @ 44.8%. EMU is last in 3pt. FG % @ 28.5%, and is also last in 3pt. FG defense @ 36.4%......KSU is 2nd in FG% defense @ 30.2%. EMU's strength is its inside game not perimeter shooting so KSU's defense may be allowed to collapse on Bowdry to contain EMU's leading scorer.

Flashes' Defense Dominant in 68-46 Win Over Eastern Michigan
Golden Flashes hold Eagles to just 28.1 percent shooting

KENT, Ohio — The Kent State men’s basketball team put on one its best defensive performances of the season holding Eastern Michigan to just 28.1 percent shooting in a 68-46 win tonight at the M.A.C. Center. The Golden Flashes (9-11; 2-4) limited the Eagles to just one free throw over the final eight minutes of the game while extending their winning streak to 13 straight victories against EMU.

Sparked by an offensive outburst from senior Jordan Mincy (Memphis, Tenn. / Ridgeway), Kent State shot 50.0 percent in the second half to pull away from Eastern Michigan (3-17; 1-5). Mincy set a new Mid-American Conference and home court career high with 13 points while adding four assists. Mincy’s performance was just the second career double-digit game from the renowned defensive specialist and two off his career high of 15.

It was back to back lay-ups from Mincy in the first half that fueled a 12-2 run and put the Golden Flashes in front to stay at the nine minute mark. Eastern Michigan fought hard to cut the lead back down to one but senior guard Al Fisher (Pennsauken, N.J. / Redlands (Okla.)) scored six points in the last five minutes as Kent State ended the half ahead by a score of 27-21. Fisher ended the night with a team best 17 points and three steals.

“We just have so many talented scorers, I think it’s best to feed them and get them started and get them going,” said Mincy, “It was just that kind of a night where we started off slow so, if the opportunity presented itself for me to score.”

In the second half, Kent State’s offense controlled the game scoring 41 points as the Golden Flashes ended the game on a 13-1 run to seal the victory. Junior guard Tyree Evans (Richmond, Va. / Motlow C.C. (Tenn.)) was a key catalyst behind the second half outcome hitting all three of his three-pointers and scoring nine of his 15 points. It was his highest point total since a 21-point outing in the MAC opener at Ohio (five games).

With Mincy, Fisher and Evans leading the offense, junior Anthony Simpson (Rockford, Ill. / Highland C.C. (Ill.)) continued to dominate the glass for the Blue and Gold. One game after his first career double-double, Simpson grabbed a team high nine rebounds while adding seven points.

Eastern Michigan was led by Cleveland, Ohio native Justin Dobbins with 19 points. The Eagles shot just 2-14 from three as the Golden Flashes locked down on the perimeter once again. The Golden Flashes have held the last five opponents to just 19.5 percent (17-87) from three.

Kent State travels to Western Michigan on Saturday for a 2:00 pm game.

NOTES: Mincy shot 6-11 from the field and set a career high for shot attempted (previous career high was seven done five times) ... Mincy also went over both the 300 assist and 100 steal plateau and now has 303 career assists and 100 career steals ... Anthony Simpson is averaging 9.0 rebounds in his six starts and 8.2 rebounds in the last five games ... Julian Sullinger set a career high with four assists. Kent State’s 13 straight wins over EMU is the longest active winning streak by one MAC team over another. a
