Is this what the Republicans are really fighting about or is this internet Republicans mad that Obama is leading significantly in the polls and looking to smear him by saying that he is not an American. I mean c'mon stick to the freaking topics that affect us and not about stupid nonsense. Politicians are liars and cheats and I've always had the realization about that but man I really can't see them having a presidential nominee run when he legally isn't allowed to.

Why did they erase so much of his past that was once available online? Why don't they provide his "vault" BC? His name was Barry Soetoro! He was not born in the United States!

This can’t be good! Rezko snitching on Giannoulias? Blagojevich? Obama?
          October 10, 2008

Alexi Giannoulias (center), Barack Obama (right)

Michael Sneed of the Chicago Sun-Times, who is definitely the go-to gal for truth when it comes to Rezko and The Chicago Way of doing business, writes today:

Sneed hears rumbles political fund-raiser/fixer Tony Rezko, who is now singing sweetly to the feds from his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, has been talking about his “dealings” with a Chicago bank, which has political connections.

Hillbuzz comments that this is a “major clue that Barack Obama will indeed go down with Tony Rezko, sooner rather than later. It looks as though Rezko is about to turn on Alexi Giannoulias, the 30-year old State Treasurer of Illinois (who was elected only because Obama backed him).”

Flashback: Barackopolis: Sneed reported September 23, 2008: “Obama was scheduled to attend a private Greek fund-raiser” Monday night, September 22nd, at Chicago’s Powerhouse restaurant hosted by “Obama’s basketball buddy, state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, who was hitting donors up for $28,500 for Democratic National Committee coffers.”

Flashback: Greed is NOT a virtue. It’s one of the 7 Deadly Sins: The Associated Press reported September 22, 2008, that Obama has already raised $17.5 million from donors in the Chicago metro area. Tonight he returns to dig deeper into contributors’ pockets.

The first Chicago event, with minimum admission of $1,500, will be held at The Standard Club. The second fundraiser, at a downtown restaurant, is being hosted by Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias (jeh-NOO’-lee-ehs) and has a $28,500 admission price.

And for a real flashback that expands on the Obama-Rezko-Giannoulias triad, read RW/RBO’s June 15, 2008, Coincidence or not? Obama, Rezko, Giannoulias.

P.S. Why, you ask, does RBO hold Michael Sneed in such high esteem? Well, we can all thank her for providing the proof that Barack and Michelle not only attended that April 3, 2004, reception for Iraqi-British billionaire businessman, Nadhmi Auchi, at Rekzo’s house, but that Obama was observed delivering a toast in Mr. Auchi’s direction. RBO will place good money on anything Sneed has to say. Anytime. Anywhere. Anyhow.

Founder Of Group Palin Courted Professed "Hatred For The American Government"; Cursed "Damn Flag"
                            By Greg Sargent

The founder of the Alaska Independence Party -- a group that has been courted over the years by Sarah Palin, and one her husband was a member of for roughly seven years -- once professed his "hatred for the American government" and cursed the American flag as a "damn flag."

The AIP founder, Joe Vogler, made the comments in 1991, in an interview that's now housed at the Oral History Program in the Rasmuson Library at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.

"The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government," Vogler said in the interview, in which he talked extensively about his desire for Alaskan secession, the key goal of the AIP.

"And I won't be buried under their damn flag," Vogler continued in the interview, which also touched on his disappointment with the American judicial system. "I'll be buried in Dawson. And when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home."

At another point, Volger advocated renouncing allegiance to the United States. In the course of denouncing Federal regulation over land, he said:

"And then you get mad. And you say, the hell with them. And you renounce allegiance, and you pledge your efforts, your effects, your honor, your life to Alaska."

You can listen to audio of the relevant section of the Volger interview here. Bill Schneider, curator of oral history at the library, verified the authenticity of the interview and the quote to me a few moments ago.

Palin has courted the group over the years.

Three years after the controversial interview, in 1994, Palin attended the group's annual convention, according to witnesses who spoke to ABC News' Jake Tapper. The McCain campaign is disputing her presence there, but Tapper found two people to attest to it.

The McCain campaign today produced Palin's voting registration records, and said they proved she was never a member of the party.

But she has repeatedly reached out to the group. The McCain campaign has confirmed she visited the group's 2000 convention, and she addressed its convention this year, as an incumbent governor whose oath of office includes upholding the Constitution of the United States.

Palin's husband, Todd Palin, was a member of the party from 1995-2002 with a brief exception in 2000.

It's worth noting that Vogler isn't just some figure from ancient history. He is still being hailed on AIP's site this year, the same year Palin addressed the group's convention.

It's worth pondering how big a deal it would be if Obama had ever courted the support of a group whose head had said this kind of thing about America and her flag. Oh, wait...

                              Candidates pressured to change debate

Andy Barr Andy Barr – Fri Oct 10, 4:23 pm ET

Debate leaves voters hungry for answers Play Video AP – Debate leaves voters hungry for answers

Obama and McCain greet audience after their presidential debate in Nashville Reuters – Democratic presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) and Republican presidential nominee Senator …

After a thoroughly panned presidential debate, a wide-ranging coalition of activists on the left and the right is calling on Barack Obama and John McCain scrap the rules for the last presidential debate to avoid the stiff and scripted answers that many critics said deadened their earlier exchanges.

The group, which includes the likes of MoveOn, The Next Right, The Huffington Post and Wikipedia, sent a letter to the presidential candidates Friday pressuring them to change what they called a “lacking” debate that was lampooned as boring by Saturday Night Live.

At a minimum, the group demands that moderator Bob Schieffer be allowed to ask follow up questions to the candidates, who many believe have been allowed to skate through debates without being aggressively challenged on vague or non-responsive answers.

While the most recent debate did include questions from the Internet, the group is demanding that the candidate questioning be more transparent and accountable. To that end, the letter asks that questions be submitted and voted on online, and that the moderator be allowed “broad discretion” to follow up on the candidates' answers.

The final debate is Wednesday, Oct. 15.

The full text of the letter is below:

                              Open Debate Coalition
OpenDebateCoalition.org Dear Senator McCain and Senator Obama,

Thank you for your recent letters affirming our coalition’s open debate principles, designed to make this year’s presidential debates more “of the people” than ever before. As we approach the final debate on October 15, we ask you to proactively implement such principles right away.

The closed nature of the recent debates has been universally criticized. The editors of Politico wrote, “The presidential debate commission’s rules are a scandal” resulting in “a format designed to limit improvisation, intellectual engagement, and truth-telling.” 83% of Obama supporters and 75% of McCain supporters agree that tough follow-up questions were lacking. Even Saturday Night Live spoofed the lack of follow-up questions in the debates, and the watered-down “town hall” questions chosen.

Therefore, we ask you to jointly announce the following in advance of the October 15 debate:

                              1) That the debate moderator has broad discretion to ask follow-up questions after a candidate’s answer, so the public can be fully informed about specific positions.

                              2) That after a “town hall” debate full of questions handpicked by the moderator, none of which were outside-the-box, you will allow Bob Schieffer to ask some Internet questions voted on by the public in the fashion outlined in our previous letter – which you agreed to. Existing technology will make this easy.

                              3) That, as a stipulation of the next debate, the media pool must release all 2008 debate footage into the public domain – as you agreed would be in the public interest. CNN, ABC, and NBC agreed to release video rights during the primary, and CBS agreed more recently. But Fox threatened Senator McCain for using a debate clip during the primary, and NBC invoked copyright law against Senator Obama to stifle political speech recently. The public deserves to know debate video can be reused without fear of breaking the law.

                              4) That you agree to work with the Open Debate Coalition after the election to reform or create an alternative to the Commission on Presidential Debates, so that the debate process is transparent and accountable to the public. Despite both of your agreement with the open debate principles, the Commission did nothing to implement them – or even to engage in dialogue about potential implementation. Also, the “31-page memo of understanding” with debate rules is nowhere on the Commission’s website, and has not been turned over despite requests.

The signers of this letter don’t agree on every political issue. But we do agree that in order for Americans to make the best decision for president, we need open debates that are “of the people” in the ways described above. You have the power to make that happen, and we ask you to do so.

Thank you for your willingness to take these ideas to heart. If you have any questions, please contact: OpenDebateCoalition@gmail.com

                              Sincerely,
