there is no way no how that either candidate when they take a look at the situation can even think about cutting taxes and the gov't cut spending............LOL thats a good one didn't bush 43 promise that

      From 2007:

      $586.1 billion - Social Security
      $548.8 billion - Defense
      $394.5 billion - Medicare
$294.0 billion - Unemployment and welfare
$276.4 billion - Medicaid and other health related

That's 2.1 trillion right there! Cut that in half, and that'll cover the bailouts! :beer2:

In Green Bay, McCain-Palin message is: No tax increase
GOP candidate and Palin draw thousands in visit
        By GREG J. BOROWSKI
        Posted: Sept. 18, 2008
        Green Bay -

Republican presidential candidate John McCain brought a sharpened economic message with him to the state Thursday night, hammering Democratic rival Barack Obama as a job-killing, tax-hiking, do-nothing, old-school politician.

To cheers from a spirited crowd that essentially filled the Resch Center in Green Bay, McCain and running mate Sarah Palin positioned themselves as the true friends of American workers, prepared to shake up "the corruption of Washington and Wall Street."

"The days of me first, country second end on Nov. 4," McCain said, later adding: "That's how we see this election, country first or Obama first."

The crowd replied with chants of "Country first! Country first!"

Like Obama, McCain's message has turned squarely to jobs and taxes, underscoring the anxiety of voters and the impact that roiling economic news is having on the campaign.

McCain was to spend the night in Green Bay and speak this morning to the Chamber of Commerce - a late addition to his schedule.

Underlining the importance of the Fox Valley region to winning Wisconsin, Obama is to visit Green Bay on Monday. Details of that visit have not been announced.

Thursday's visit, McCain's sixth to the state since the primary, came as a series of new polls showed an exceedingly tight race in Wisconsin and other Midwestern battlegrounds.

Indeed, the recent Republican itinerary mirrored the polls: On Wednesday, McCain and Palin were in Michigan, and they began their day Thursday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

At each stop, the message was similar: We will reform Washington and fix the economy.

And Obama and running mate Joe Biden will tax the economy into a recession.

That view, of course, is hotly contested by Obama and a host of Democrats, including Gov. Jim Doyle and Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, who campaigned in the state this week on behalf of Obama.

Both argued that McCain and Palin are out of touch on the economy and that their policies mirror those of President Bush - not the change the two promised in Green Bay.

"He can utter the word change all he wants," Doyle said of McCain. "But he has a record to deal with - (one) totally supportive of Bush financially."

In an interview with the Journal Sentinel, Sebelius took issue with McCain's assertion - amid new upheaval in the mortgage markets - that "the fundamentals of our economy are still strong."

Earlier this week, however, McCain noted "these are very, very difficult times."

Asked her assessment of the economy, Sebelius noted rising unemployment rates, the loss of some 660,000 jobs this year alone and the mortgage crisis that meant "millions of Americans have lost their homes."

Average residents, she said, know something is wrong.

"A lot of the financial woes that have made it to Wall Street have been on Main Street for some time," Sebelius said.

        Warm reception
To the delight of the crowd Thursday night, McCain and Palin entered through a cutout outline of the state, tracing the edge of the arena - where spotlights had just criss-crossed the floor - to a stage set in front of a bank of seats, below giant U.S. and Wisconsin flags.

The bowl of the Resch Center, which seats about 11,000 people, was nearly full. An additional 1,000 or so people stood on the floor, many waving signs such as "The Original Mavericks" and "Wisconsin loves McCain."

Palin spoke first, but for many in the crowd she was the main attraction.

Helen Ryan of Oshkosh proudly wore a red jacket and a button with a picture of Palin shooting a rifle and the words "read my lipstick." It was a reference to Palin's now-famous joke from her acceptance speech that the only difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull was lipstick.

"I think she's really down to earth," Ryan said. "I think she's not from the good old boys' school."

Her friend Lynne Lenius of Menasha agreed: "She's approachable. She's not an entrenched politician."

Palin is the first woman on a GOP ticket and since her primetime debut at the Republican National Convention has shaken up a race that polls showed trending Obama's way.

Indeed, at some recent rallies, reporters have noted that some in the crowd left once she turned the microphone over to McCain. That didn't happen Thursday night, with many Republicans nearly giddy by the neck-and-neck polls. Combined, the two spoke for about 30 minutes, offering retorts to statements from earlier in the day by Obama and Biden.

For instance, Obama had urged supporters to "get in the face" of friends and relatives in order to convince them of the importance of voting Democratic this fall.

Said Palin: "That (arguing) doesn't sound like the politics of hope and change to me."

And Biden had remarked earlier Thursday, while touting the Democratic ticket's middle-class tax cuts, that it was time for wealthy Americans to pay more, noting it was a matter of "patriotism" and pitching in during a crisis.

Said McCain: "Raising taxes in a tough economy is not patriotic. It's not a badge of honor. It's just plain dumb."

During his speech, McCain offered a blistering criticism of Obama, particularly in relation to the nation's mortgage crisis highlighted by the government takeover of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

McCain said Obama was a major recipient of campaign contributions from officials with the two entities. He also said when he called for reform two years ago, Obama "didn't lift a hand to avert the crisis."

Said McCain: "That's not change. That's what's broken in Congress, my friends."

Vote was 55-43, 5 shy of the 60 required under Senate rules to limit debate, on May 11, 2006 (Roll 119). "Obama's transformation, if you go by his campaign so far, would mean higher income taxes, higher Social Security taxes, higher investment taxes, higher corporate taxes, massive new domestic spending, and a healthcare plan that perhaps could be the next step to a full-scale, single-payer system. Is that what most Americans want, someone who will fulfill a Democratic policy wish list?" (James Pethokoukis, "Barack Hussein Reagan? Ronald Wilson Obama?" Barack Obama Would Raise Social Security (Payroll) Taxes On Families. "Obama's proposal ... would impose social security taxes on income above $250,000 per year. American Ignorance!

Who is Responsible for What Caused Financial Institution Crisis in System Economic Collapse
Barack H. Obama and Democrats Engineered Taxpayer Ripoff Banking Restructuring Plan for U. S. Housing Market Bill Clinton’s Administration Changed Rescinded Glass Steagall Act of 1933 Backed by Senators Chris Dodd and Hillary Clinton’s Pals Robert Rubin and Jamie Gorelick with Barack H. Obama Favor Lax Federal Lending Standards for Socialist Giveaways to Buy Votes by Tax and Spend Government Control
The Glass-Steagall Act of 1933 was a federal law desinged to keep free-wheeling high-stakes speculators (investment bankers) out of the commercial banks, so that market swings would not bring citizens’ banks to their knees, which is what has happened thanks to the Clinton administration which enacted law overriding Glass-Steagall, allowing bank assets to be loaned willy nilly, speculatively, knowing all the while that the government would step in to take control, more control, just what the Democrats and B. Hussein want, as they seek to control the medical industry too, and preclude offshore drilling for our energy independence. It’s as if they are deliberately trying to destroy our great land, but the american people are smelling the coffee, as it looks like B. Hussein and his democrat compadres could suffer bitter defeat at the polls in November.

Billions of dollars were made off the real estate speculation bubble, those profits now subsidized by the american taxpayer, so thousands of fatcats are much richer, and millions of Americans are still in homes they can’t afford, all because the liberal statist Democrats want irresponsible lending to those who can’t afford to pay it back, a deliberate undermining of our financial system by the Democrats, to buy votes to boot, now led by Barack H. Obama, who promises more taxes and open borders, with many of the loans going to illegal aliens. Obama might lose by 20 points.

You will not see Obama seeking investigations into this financial disaster, because his buddies in the Democrat party backed these practices, and Obama never joined the Republicans in protesting the practices, so Obama and the Democrats are to blame, quite clearly, as Obama will once again try to spin that black is white, futility trying to explain away his party’s support for this goverment control and takeover of markets, with the top dogs making off with billions of dollars, at the taxpayers expense, right out of your pocketbook.

FEDERAL HOUSING ENTERPRISE REGULATORY REFORM ACT OF 2005
                    (Democrats blocked reform)

                    The United States Senate

                    May 25, 2006

                    Section 16

Sen. John McCain [R-AZ]: Mr. President, this week Fannie Mae's regulator reported that the company's quarterly reports of profit growth over the past few years were "illusions deliberately and systematically created" by the company's senior management, which resulted in a $10.6 billion accounting scandal.

The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight's report goes on to say that Fannie Mae employees deliberately and intentionally manipulated financial reports to hit earnings targets in order to trigger bonuses for senior executives. In the case of Franklin Raines, Fannie Mae's former chief executive officer, OFHEO's report shows that over half of Mr. Raines' compensation for the 6 years through 2003 was directly tied to meeting earnings targets. The report of financial misconduct at Fannie Mae echoes the deeply troubling $5 billion profit restatement at Freddie Mac.

The OFHEO report also states that Fannie Mae used its political power to lobby Congress in an effort to interfere with the regulator's examination of the company's accounting problems. This report comes some weeks after Freddie Mac paid a record $3.8 million fine in a settlement with the Federal Election Commission and restated lobbying disclosure reports from 2004 to 2005. These are entities that have demonstrated over and over again that they are deeply in need of reform.

For years I have been concerned about the regulatory structure that governs Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac--known as Government-sponsored entities or GSEs--and the sheer magnitude of these companies and the role they play in the housing market. OFHEO's report this week does nothing to ease these concerns. In fact, the report does quite the contrary. OFHEO's report solidifies my view that the GSEs need to be reformed without delay.

I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole.

I urge my colleagues to support swift action on this GSE reform legislation.

                    Quick Info
                    S. 190 [109th]: Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005
Last Action: Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs. Ordered to be reported with an amendment in the nature of a substitute favorably. Status: Dead

WHILE campaigning in public for a speedy withdrawal of US troops from Iraq, Sen. Barack Obama has tried in private to persuade Iraqi leaders to delay an agreement on a draw-down of the American military presence.

According to Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, Obama made his demand for delay a key theme of his discussions with Iraqi leaders in Baghdad in July.

"He asked why we were not prepared to delay an agreement until after the US elections and the formation of a new administration in Washington," Zebari said in an interview.
