Memphis forward Robert Dozier could face assault charges after his ex-girlfriend, Laparis Woods, claimed in a police affidavit that Dozier hit her during an altercation early Sunday morning, according to a report in The Commercial Appeal.

The police report claims Dozier followed Woods out of the Plush Club in downtown Memphis at 3:30 a.m. and eventually hit her twice. Woods had minor lacerations on her face. She has filed a complaint to obtain a protective order.

Memphis coach John Calipari released a statement Wednesday morning.

"Late Tuesday evening, I learned of an incident concerning one of our players, Robert Dozier," the statement read. "We are finding out all the facts."

This isn't the first incident for Memphis.

Not even the first this season

Shawn Taggart and Jeff Robinson were arrested in September, also after leaving the Plush Club. Robinson was charged with inciting a riot, assault-bodily harm and disorderly conduct. Taggart was charged with inciting a riot and disorderly conduct. But neither player was suspended by Calipari, who said in the Wednesday statement that he would deal with Dozier "in a fair and firm manner like I always have."

Dozier is averaging 10.5 points and 7.3 rebounds for the top-ranked Tigers.

Memphis (21-0) plays SMU on Wednesday night.

Dozier is the second Memphis player to be accused of assaulting a woman in the past four seasons.

Jeremy Hunt was arrested during the 2004-05 season for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Tamika Rogers, in her front yard. According to Rogers, Hunt "pushed, shoved, punched and grabbed" her in an incident that left her noticeably battered and with a black eye.

Calipari reacted by suspending Hunt for two games.

Hunt was then "permanently dismissed" before the 2005-06 season following a fight on Beale Street during which he broke his hand, though the dismissal wasn't actually permanent. Hunt was reinstated for the 2006-07 season -- after Darius Washington and Shawne Williams left school early to enter the NBA Draft -- and averaged 14.1 points per game while leading Memphis to the Elite Eight of the 2007 NCAA Tournament.

Dozier isn't that important to them anyway, IMO. They can plug in Taggart. That team is run by Rose and CDR and Dorsey on the glass/defense.
