Will be at the Kent/Akron game tonight....should be a war as usual. The Flashes always have trouble guarding Nick Dials for some reason, and I think he's played about 10 years between UA and Ohio State! A small preview:
A perfect 10-0 at home this season, the Golden Flashes (14-4; 3-1) return to the M.A.C. Center against local rival Akron. Kent State has not lost back-to-back games against the Mid-American Conference since the 2004-05 season and is looking to rebound from a 71-59 loss at Ohio on Saturday. Al Fisher led the team with 15 points, while Haminn Quaintance posted his sixth double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Akron (14-3; 4-0) has won four straight and nine of the last 10 games. The Zips are coming off a two game home stand in which they beat Ohio 55-54 and overwhelmed Bowling Green 80-44 on Sunday. Jeremiah Wood leads the team with 14.5 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.
Separated by just 14 miles the top two teams in the current MAC East standings are meeting for the 123rd time with Kent State owning a 62-60 edge. This is the fifth straight regular season meeting that the game features either the Golden Flashes and/or the Zips in first place or playing for first place. Kent State has won 19 of the last 20 at home with the lone loss coming in overtime to Akron on March 4 last year.
• The current 10 game home court winning streak is tied for the 19th longest in the nation.
• Haminn Quaintance has had a double-double in four of the past five games. Averaging 11.8 ppg and 11.0 rpg. In MAC games this season he leads the league with 10.2 rpg.
• Kent State is shooting 76.8 percent (53-69) from the foul line in the last three games.
•The Golden Flashes are a perfect 14-0 this season when shooting over 40 percent from the field. In the four games when the team has shot 40 percent or less, KSU has a 0-4 record.
• The Golden Flashes are also 13-0 when posting a better shooting percentage than the opposition.
