    OVEN MITT & JoePa's Wednesday 1/23 Baskets

    OVEN MITT YTD: 16 - 12
    1/22: 0 - 1

    "Definitely"
    DELAWARE +5
    @ James Madison

    JOEPA'S UPDATED YTD: 56 - 59 - 1
    UNITS: -9.75
    1/22: 3 - 1
    MAC: 12 - 4 (2 - 1 lastnight)

Will be at the Kent/Akron game tonight....should be a war as usual. The Flashes always have trouble guarding Nick Dials for some reason, and I think he's played about 10 years between UA and Ohio State! A small preview:

A perfect 10-0 at home this season, the Golden Flashes (14-4; 3-1) return to the M.A.C. Center against local rival Akron. Kent State has not lost back-to-back games against the Mid-American Conference since the 2004-05 season and is looking to rebound from a 71-59 loss at Ohio on Saturday. Al Fisher led the team with 15 points, while Haminn Quaintance posted his sixth double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Akron (14-3; 4-0) has won four straight and nine of the last 10 games. The Zips are coming off a two game home stand in which they beat Ohio 55-54 and overwhelmed Bowling Green 80-44 on Sunday. Jeremiah Wood leads the team with 14.5 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.
Separated by just 14 miles the top two teams in the current MAC East standings are meeting for the 123rd time with Kent State owning a 62-60 edge. This is the fifth straight regular season meeting that the game features either the Golden Flashes and/or the Zips in first place or playing for first place. Kent State has won 19 of the last 20 at home with the lone loss coming in overtime to Akron on March 4 last year.
    • The current 10 game home court winning streak is tied for the 19th longest in the nation.
    • Haminn Quaintance has had a double-double in four of the past five games. Averaging 11.8 ppg and 11.0 rpg. In MAC games this season he leads the league with 10.2 rpg.
    • Kent State is shooting 76.8 percent (53-69) from the foul line in the last three games.
•The Golden Flashes are a perfect 14-0 this season when shooting over 40 percent from the field. In the four games when the team has shot 40 percent or less, KSU has a 0-4 record.
    • The Golden Flashes are also 13-0 when posting a better shooting percentage than the opposition.

BOWLING GREEN +4 vs. Miami, OH
    OHIO -4.5 @ Buffalo
    PURDUE -2 @ Penn State
MISSOURI STATE -3 vs. Southern Illinois

    BOL to everyone! :beerbang:

Thanks Skins....let's make some dough again tonight!

If I remember too do so, I'll post try to post a preview for MAC league games during the week like these:

      AKRON (14-3, 4-0 MAC) @ KENT STATE (14-4, 3-1 MAC)
      Kent leads the series 62-60

      • Akron has won four straight and nine of the last 10 games. The Zips are coming off a two game home stand in which they beat Ohio 55-54 and overwhelmed Bowling Green 80-44 on Sunday. Jeremiah Wood leads the team with 14.5 points and 8.3 rebounds per game... Wednesday marks the fifth-straight regular-season Akron-Kent State match-up in which either the Golden Flashes and/or the Zips are in first place or are playing for first place in the league’s East Division... Akron leads the MAC in scoring (74.1 ppg), scoring margin (+11.6/43rd nationally), 3-point field goal percentage (38.1 percent/142-of-373), 3-pointers made per game (8.4 mpg/40th nationally), assist-turnover ratio (1.1) and turnover margin (+4.4).

      • A perfect 10-0 at home this season, Kent State has not lost back-to-back games against the Mid-American Conference since the 2004-05 season and is looking to rebound from a 71-59 loss at Ohio on Saturday. Al Fisher led the team with 15 points, while Haminn Quaintance posted his sixth double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds... Quaintance has had a double-double in four of the past five games. Averaging 11.8 ppg and 11.0 rpg. In MAC games this season he leads the league with 10.2 rpg... Kent State is shooting 76.8 percent (53-69) from the foul line in the last three games.

      MIAMI (7-9, 1-3 MAC) @ BOWLING GREEN (7-9, 2-2 MAC)
      Miami leads series 71-46

      • With a 64-57 win against Buffalo on Jan. 20, Miami head coach Charlie Coles earned his 200th win at the helm of the RedHawk program. Coles also tied former Ohio head coach Jim Snyder for second in career MAC-only wins with 176. Coles is in his 12th season guiding the Miami program and his 18th season as a head coach in the Mid-American Conference... In its first three games to open MAC play, Miami recorded season highs for turnovers (16 at Akron; 16 vs. Kent State) and averaged 14.7 turnovers per game. Against Buffalo on Jan. 20, Miami committed its second fewest turnovers of the season, giving up only nine turnovers to the Bulls, including just four in the first half. Miami’s season low for turnovers was seven against Mississippi State on Nov. 25.

      • Bowling Green is coming off an 80-44 loss at Akron on Sunday but has posted wins in its home league contests this year, topping Ohio 52-49 on Jan. 5 and Buffalo 83-70 on Jan. 17. Nate Miller leads the team in scoring, averaging 13.0 ppg, which Chris Knight leads the team in rebounding, averaging 7.1 rpg. Knight is the other Falcon to score in double figures, averaging 11.8 ppg. As a team, Bowling Green leads the league in blocked shots with 71 on the season, including 20 in league action. Bowling Green also leads the league in field goal percentage defense this season, allowing opponents a .409 field goal percentage.

      OHIO (11-6, 2-2 MAC) @ BUFFALO (6-10, 0-4 MAC)
      Ohio leads series 18-4

      • Ohio blocked six shots in the 71-59 win over Kent State. That was the most in a game for the program since rejecting eight in the 90-77 win over Buffalo in the Convo on March 2, 2005... Ohio is undefeated at home this season, with seven straight wins inside The Convocation Center. Last season, Ohio lost just two of eight games at home, but one game was to Kent State, 73-71. The Bobcats also lost to Northern Illinois, dropping two of their last three home games... The Bobcats inside combination of Jerome Tillman and Leon Williams have been dominate on the glass this season. In each of Ohio’s 17 games, either Tillman or Williams has led the team in rebounding. Tillman has done it five times and Williams led the ‘Cats in boards 14 times, including eight straight games.

      • Buffalo is coming off a 64-57 loss at Miami on Sunday. The Bulls were led by Calvin Betts who had 12 points and nine rebounds. The Bulls have won three of the last four meetings with Ohio at Alumni Arena... UB opponents are shooting only 23.2 percent from beyond the arc over the last five games... The Bulls are 4-1 at home this season. Buffalo has played its best defense at Alumni Arena, holding opponents to an average of 63 points per game. UB has held three of its last four opponents to 60 points or less... The Bulls are averaging 71.6 points in home games, compared to 63.5 on the road.

                            And here's the Kent/Akron roundup.....

Second-half Comeback Lifts Kent State over Akron 75-69
Golden Flashes rally from 10-point half time deficit
                            Courtesy: Kent State Athletic Communications
                            Release: 01/23/2008

KENT, Ohio — There was no shortage of drama in the Kent State men’s basketball team’s 75-69 win over the rival Akron at the M.A.C Center on Wednesday night. The Golden Flashes ended a four game losing streak to the Zips by erasing a 10-point half time deficit and pulled even in the Mid-American Conference East Division standings. KSU improved to 15-4 and 4-1 in the MAC while Akron fell to 14-4 overall 4-1.
Down 35-25 at the half, Kent State rallied with a 68 percent shooting performance to outscore the Zips 50-34 in the second half. The Golden Flashes finished the game shooting 57 percent overall, to improve to 11-0 at home this season. In the process they held Akron to 44 percent overall, 37 percent in the second half.
“The game had runs on both teams and In the second half I thought we were in a good rhythm offensively,” said Head Coach Jim Christian, “Guys made some shots, but we were really making simple plays. I thought that as long as we kept executing, once we got the lead it was going to be tough.”
Kent State jumped out to an early lead, starting with back-to-back layups by leading scorer Chris Singletary (Chicago, Ill./ Florida Prep). The sophomore guard finished with 18 points, matching senior forward Mike Scott (Indianapolis, Ind. / Northwest) who totaled, 15 of his 18 points in the second half.
While the Flashes shot well early, the Zips did not. Akron started the game 2-8 from the field but ended the half 10-of-15. A 3-pointer followed by an old fashioned three-point play Jeremiah Wood gave the Zips their first lead in the half (14-13).
The Zips continued with the hot shooting from 3-point land to keep pushing the lead. Guard Nick Dials hit three 3-pointers, including one at the buzzer to send Zips into the half up by 10. He finished 4-7 from three and a game-high 22 points.
The Flashes attempts for a comeback continued to be stopped until Kent State went on a 12-0 run with 12 minutes to go. A layup by sophomore Rodriquez Sherman (Indianapolis, Ind./ Ben Davis) established a 48-46 at the 9:30 minute mark before junior Al Fisher (Pennsauken, N.J. / Redlands C.C.) followed with a 3-pointer at the top of the key as the shot clock expired to give the Flashes a two possession lead. Fisher added 16 points, 12 of which coming in the second half.
“After Fisher hit the three at the end of the shot clock the guys were talking about playing with confidence,” said Singletary, “Tonight a lot of guys played with confidence and didn’t get down on each other and just played all the way through the end of the game.”
The Flashes never trailed after the nine minute mark, however after four 3-pointers by three Zips players, they cut the lead to just two points (69-67) with eight seconds remaining. Kent State then sealed the win from the foul line hitting six of eight to close out the game.
For Kent State senior Haminn Quaintance (Sarasota, Fla. / Jacksonville University) finished with his fifth double-double in six games scoring 12 points with a game high 10 rebounds and five blocks.

The Flashes will begin MAC West Division play when they face Western Michigan at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the M.A.C. Center.

NOTES: Sixth win this season against a top 100 RPI (Akron - 68) ... 125th career win for Jim Christian ... KSU is 11-0 at home this year and has won 20 of the last 21 in the MAC Center ... The 50 second half points match a season high for points in a half this season (50 vs Cleveland State 12/29) ... Haminn Quaintance has had a double-double in four of the five MAC games this season ... Third time this season with five blocks in a game. (career high) ... He is now tied for 4th on the KSU career blocks list with 92 (Kyrem Massey 1997-2001).
