Two struggling teams meet in a battle for bowl-eligibility when Nebraska hosts Wisconsin Saturday afternoon in Lincoln.

Both teams lug losing streaks into this game and both need one more win to become bowl-eligible, with time running out.

The Badgers own a 10-game winning streak on the Cornhuskers but most recent meetings played close, including last year’s, which went to overtime.

The Line

This week’s CFB betting market opened Nebraska at -2.5 over Wisconsin, with an O/U of right around 42. Both figures were holding steady in early betting action.

According to Sagarin’s CFB ratings (Sagarin.com) the line on this game should be a pick ‘em.

Wisconsin Betting Preview

The Badgers bring a three-game losing skid with them to Lincoln after falling at home to No. 1 Oregon last Saturday 16-13. Wisconsin, as a two-touchdown home dog, actually led the Ducks 13-6 through three quarters. But the Badgers couldn’t hold on, allowing the last 10 points of the game, coming up with no response offensively.

Wisconsin got out-gained by Oregon 354-226.

Realistically, the Badgers didn’t play all that well last Saturday; it looked like the Ducks played down to them.

Two games ago, Wisconsin gave up 329 yards on the ground and lost to Iowa 42-10. Three games ago, the Badgers allowed 419 total yards and lost to Penn State 28-13.

At 5-5 overall, Bucky still needs one more win – they finish the regular season against Minnesota next week – to extend their bowl streak to 23 straight seasons.

Nebraska Betting Preview

Meanwhile the ‘Huskers haul a four-game losing skid into Saturday after falling at USC last Saturday 28-20. Nebraska, catching 6.5 points, led 17-14 midway through the third quarter. But the Cornhuskers couldn’t hang on, either, coming up empty on a late push into the USC red zone.

Nebraska got out-gained by Southern Cal 444-310.

Two games ago, the ‘Huskers, favored by seven points, lost at home to UCLA 27-20. Three games ago, they led at Ohio State 17-14 in the fourth quarter but lost 21-17. Four games ago, Nebraska got punked at Indiana 56-7.

At 5-5 overall, the Cornhuskers also need one more win – they finish their season next week at Iowa – to become bowl-eligible for the first time since 2016!

Wisconsin-Nebraska Recent History

The Badgers own a 10-game winning streak on the Cornhuskers, but Nebraska is 5-2-1 ATS over the last eight meetings, keeping most games close while catching points.

Last season, Wisconsin beat the ‘Huskers in Madison 24-17 in overtime, pushing the spread to -7.

These teams have played three common opponents this season: Rutgers, Purdue, and USC. Wisconsin played those foes to 2-1, both SU and ATS, and +155 YPG, Nebraska to 2-1 SU, 1-1-1 ATS, and +20 YPG.

Totals Report

  • The totals are 5-5 in Badgers games this season, which are averaging 45 total points.
  • The unders are 7-3 in ‘Huskers games, which are averaging 43 points.
  • The overs are 5-1 over the last six meetings between these teams.

Free College Football Pick

Wisconsin owns the better running game, but Nebraska owns the better run defense. We give the Cornhuskers a better chance of winning the ground battle in this game. Also, we give Nebraska some credit for its performance at Ohio State, while the Badgers did not exactly impress us in their game against Oregon. Finally, we thought the ‘Huskers actually outplayed the Badgers last season, and not a whole lot has changed for these two teams since then. We’re betting on Nebraska for Saturday.
