First off: Lets all cut it out with naming Stadiums!!! Holy Crap! Ben Hill Griffin Stadium surrounding Florida Field otherwise known as the Swamp!! Holy Toledo!!! Ben Hill Griffin was some jacked-up juice farmer who wanted to roll in the woods with the athletes and Griffin paid his way to prominence! Only in America! Well, let us give Ben Hill Griffin his due. Toledo stomps into Bennie Hill Stadium walking under Kathy Griffins Concourse (No! It isnt codeHA!) to slither in the Swamp with nostalgia; this Florida team is not that good! In Toledos Bowl Game ending the 2012 season, Utah State suddenly and mysteriously became mistaken Toledo was a D-3 Team in the Miss Peggys Potato Salad Bowl somewhere in Idaho (is Idaho in Kentucky?) last season.
The Huggies put an ole fashioned chicken-pluckin on the Rockets 41-15. The Huggies (I know Utah State is the Aggiesweve got enough of them, though!) looked fresher in that Bowl Game than Halle Berry doin the Gangnam in a River Dance outfit! Anyway, Toledo looked worn out and sick in that game like they ate a Flue-zza (an overwhelming Pizza!). Do not be deceived; Toledo can Ball! Florida also comes in after getting Step-Father spanked by Louisville on a much bigger stage at the Sugar Bowl presented by Doritanos Transmissions and ELBA Yoga Centers. Lets pull the Predict-icator out and pick a Ben Hill Griffin winna!!
Florida Head Coach Will Muschamp is described as a fiery competitor but I see him more like a dumpster fire. Muschamp is a defensive coach so it isnt surprising his offense seems like 3-day-old Bar Beers. Muschamp has been carrying the label Intense since he walked on and played at U of Georgia. I think hes a Poser (HA!). Fiery Competitor is usually code for complete jerk that takes things too seriously. The Gators were 3 losses away in 2012 of being very averagethen Louisville pulled the Beat-Stick out at the Sugar Bowl exposing Florida as truly marginal, uninspiring, and lethargic at best.
Florida should’ve lost to Bowling Green 1st game last year, took it on the snout against a horrible Missouri team teetering on a loss, and should have lost to a pretty good UL-Lafayette squadbut they didnt lose and now the expectations are on. That is bad news for Muschamp especially since Andre Debose is lost for the season with an ACL tear. Debose was Floridas only Game-Changer and his absence really hurts Floridas efforts to blow games open or break an opponents heart. Lets take a look inside this Game 1 battle.
Toledo can put tons of points on the board in a hurry and Florida cannot do the same. Florida has lost its identity of sprinting past opponents leaving a huge margin of victory in their wake. Frankly, Florida is looking much like the new Tennessee Vols and that is not good. In every college era, there is always one coach who is 2 wins away from getting fired but seems to eke out a win just in time keeping pink slips away. Muschamp is quickly turning into the John Cooper, Bob Davie, or 40-36 Pat Fitzgerald of the college football coaching corral. This year, I believe Toledo will be big-time Bowling leaving the Gators at the Tater and wondering What Happened in Gainesville. What Happened? For Gator fans—2 things: 1) Head Coach is defensively driven 2) Everyone else in the SEC (that counts) is offensively driven!
Tims Pick to Cover the Point Spread: Toledo +24 with the UNDER.
