College Football Picks
Pittsburgh Panthers vs. Eastern Michigan Eagles Pick ATS
The ACC isn’t exactly a superpower in college football, but when matched up with a team from the MAC, there’s a huge indifference. The Pitt Panthers are simply better at every position than the Eastern Michigan Eagles. We make this point spread at -14.5 so will happily lay the eleven points, despite the game being played at Ford Field, only 36 miles away from the EMU campus.
Hawaii Rainbow Warriors vs. BYU Cougars Pick 12/24/19
BYU is usually a very focused team, so I don’t see the typical enamourment with all the good things that come with going to Hawaii being much of a distraction. The problem for BYU is that the Aloha Bowl is a home game for the Rainbow Warriors and they’re actually a pretty good team. I’m not much of a conspiracy theorist, but having watched numerous games on the island, weird things happen and opposing teams almost always seem to be on the wrong end of the stick with regards to penalties. Watch and you shall see!
UCF vs. Marshall Pick – Gasparilla Bowl Analysis & Predictions
Make no doubt about it, UCF is the superior college football team here. The question is will they be motivated enough to get up for this game vs. a lesser opponent in a lesser bowl game? Our answer is no. The Thundering Herd played well this season and are happy to be in this game. We’re happy getting +17 here, which is a key number in college football betting!
Holiday Bowl: USC vs. Iowa Pick
The 2019 Holiday Bowl should be a pretty good game. Both the USC Trojans and Iowa Hawkeyes come into the game with three straight wins. Sometimes the best handicapping angle for college bowl games is figuring out which team will be more motivated. Iowa is notorious for giving maximum effort regardless of what the situation entails. USC has had some instances in which they’ve lacked motivation. Check out Loot’s Holiday Bowl game prediction before placing your bets!
Sun Bowl Picks: Florida State vs. Arizona State
The Sun Bowl should be called the “Who Cares Bowl” as the Florida State Semioles and Arizona State Sun Devils meet up to do battle. These teams went 13-11 combined and neither had winning records against the spread. The difference maker here will likely be Jayden Daniels for ASU, who had 17 touchdowns vs. only 2 interceptions.
Fiesta Bowl: Clemson vs. Ohio State Pick 12/28
Undefeated conference champions meet up in the Fiesta Bowl where the Ohio State Buckeyes face the Clemson Tigers for the right to move on to NCAA football’s National Championship game on January 7th in Santa Clara, California. This is somewhat of a revenge game for OSU after they were blanked 31-0 in this spot back in 2016. Be sure to read Ted’s take for placing your bets on this game!
Alamo Bowl: Utah Utes vs. Texas Longhorns Pick
The Alamo Bowl should be a great game between a Utes team that played very poorly vs. Oregon and the Longhorns who will have a semi home game with the contest being played in Texas. Don’t write off this Utah team! The Utes are a well discplined team that will be motivated off an ugly loss where they were expected to compete much better than they did.
Outback Bowl: Minnesota vs. Auburn Pick
The Outback Bowl pits the surprising Minnesota Golden Gophers vs. the Auburn Tigers. Casual bettors everywhere will see that the Tigers beat Bama and automatically write off Minnesota’s chances of winning this contest. Truth be told, these teams match up very well and PJ Fleck’s club has a pretty good shot to win this game straight up behind QB Tanner Morgan who has an almost 5-1 touchdown to interception ratio.
Peach Bowl: Oklahoma vs. LSU Pick
This should be deemed “The Sooners Shoudn’t Be Here Bowl” sponsored by the Utah Utes and Georgia Bulldogs. Losses by both teams opened the door for the Sooners to participate in the college football playoffs semifinal game vs. the top ranked LSU Tigers. We’re predicting the Peach Bowl will be a smash spot for Ed Orgeron’s crew. The Tigers are 10-3-2 ATS in the last 15 contests and have covered 5 straight against their last 5 Big 12 opponents.
Citrus Bowl: Michigan vs. Alabama Pick
In the eyes of Nick Saban, anything less than a championship is a failure. For us college football bettors outside of the state of Alabama, all we care about is a cover. The Tide will still be without Tua, but Mac Jones didn’t get to Alabama being an average QB. Don’t give up on Bama here as they still have an group of receivers and coach who hates to lose.
Boca Raton Bowl Pick: SMU vs. Florida Atlantic
It’s not often that you get a pair of 10-win squads in one of the early bowl games, but that’s what we’ve got here as SMU and Florida Atlantic will play on the Owls’ home turf. If FAU is going to pull off the “W”, they’ll need to do it without their head coach Lane Kiffin, who has moved on to coach Ole Miss. With so much up in the air here, Dan prefers to bet the over/under in this game.
New Orleans Bowl Pick: Appalachian State vs. UAB
App State hasn’t played the toughest schedule, but they still stands out here with only won loss on the season. UAB on the other hand has proven that they struggle stepping up in competition scoring 13 or fewer points in all four of their losses. Is App St. 16.5 points better is the main question?
Texas Bowl Pick: Oklahoma State vs. Texas A&M
The low point spread in the Academy Sports & Outdoors Texas Bowl is surprisingly low when you take strength of conference into consideration. SEC college football teams are much more powerful than Big 12 teams. Even Okie State coach Mike Gundy says TAMU is the best 7-5 team in college football bowl history! I think you know which way we’re betting this one!
Las Vegas Bowl Picks: Boise State Broncos vs. Washington Huskies
How is it that when we think of the Huskies and Broncos we envision Chris Peterson coaching both teams? To be completely candid, this game is super wonky and probably should be avoided unless you’re a degenerate gambler that absolutely has to have action on it! Nonetheless, Loot gives his take on who he thinks will cover the Mitsubishi Motors Las Vegas Bowl point spread.
Frisco Bowl Pick: Kent State vs. Utah State
When figuring out who to bet on smaller college football teams in smaller conferences, strength of opponents becomes a major variable. With the MAC being the weakest conference in the FBS, the Utah State Aggies kind of become attractive laying -7.5.
New Mexico Bowl Pick: Central Michigan vs. San Diego State
Chippewas coach Jim McElwain has done a nice job turning the Central Michigan program around from a 1-11 season, however, he’ll be up against it in the New Mexico Bowl against the stingy run defense of Rocky Long’s San Diego State Aztecs. This game is likely to be light on fireworks but packs some good punch with regards to betting value as we believe San Diego St. will cash out another ticket here.
