Michigan is off to a 5-0 start to this season but should get a good test when it takes on Nebraska in Lincoln Saturday night. The Wolverines are coming off a Big Ten road victory last week to remain unbeaten, while the Cornhuskers are playing better ball since a season-opening loss to Illinois.
Michigan is favored by three and a hook here on the road. Which way are we going with our free college football betting pick? (get more CFB picks)
Michigan-Nebraska Betting Odds
This week’s college football betting lines opened the Wolverines as three-point road favorites for this game, with an over/under of right around 52.5. Early betting action then edged that spread to -3.5 and dropped that total to 50.
Michigan-Nebraska College Football Betting Preview
The Wolverines are 5-0 for the first time in five seasons after winning at Wisconsin last week 38-17. Michigan drew first blood with a touchdown late in the first quarter and led 13-10 at the half. The Wolverines then drove the opening possession of the second half 59 yards to a touchdown and pulled away from there for the outright victory as two-point underdogs.
Michigan out-gained the Badgers 365-210, held Wisconsin to 43 yards on the ground, and won the turnover battle 3-1.
With a 20-13 win over Rutgers two weeks ago, the Wolverines are 2-0 in Big Ten play. Michigan also owns easy victories over Western Michigan and Northern Illinois and a convincing win over what’s supposed to be a good Washington team.
The Wolverines are 5-0 and ranked No. 8 in this week’s Coaches Poll, but they’ve got several tough games yet to play, including this one.
The Cornhuskers, meanwhile, are 3-3 on the season after nuking Northwestern last week 56-7. Nebraska scored touchdowns on its first four possessions of the game, led 35-7 at the half, then poured it on from there for the win and the money as 11-point favorites.
The ‘Huskers piled up 657 yards of offense last week, including 427 on the ground, held the Wildcats to 293 yards, and won the time of possession by a 34:26 split.
Nebraska opened this season with a bad loss to Illinois, then beat Fordham and Buffalo both handily. The ‘Huskers then gave Oklahoma, which is supposed to be great, a challenging game in Norman, losing 23-16 but covering as 21-point dogs, then lost at undefeated Michigan State 23-20 in overtime despite out-gaining the Spartans by almost 200 yards. So actually, with a bit of luck, Nebraska could be 5-1.
Michigan-Nebraska Recent History
These teams have split four meetings, both SU and ATS, since the ‘Huskers joined the Big Ten back in 2011. Most recently, three seasons ago, the Wolverines beat Nebraska in Ann Arbor 56-10, covering at -18.
Our guess is Saturday’s game will play a little closer than that one.

Outsiders might think Michigan’s win over Wisconsin last week was a quality effort, but truth be told, the Badgers stink right now. And the win over Washington doesn’t look as good, either, with the Huskies struggling. Nebraska, meanwhile, played No. 5 Oklahoma tough and probably should have beat No. 11 Michigan State. The ‘Huskers appear to be on the improve, finally, under Coach Frost, and we like their chances here. We’re betting Nebraska and won’t be surprised when they win this game outright.
