The College Football postseason will continue on Tuesday with an intriguing match-up between the No. 25 Memphis Tigers and the West Virginia Mountaineers, who will meet at Toyota Stadium for the Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl. The Tigers are coming off their 2nd straight 10-win season courtesy of a 34-24 victory over no. 17 Tulane in the regular season finale. The Tigers will be making their 11th straight postseason bowl appearance. The Tigers knocked off Iowa State from the Big 12 in last year’s Liberty Bowl and will draw another Big 12 opponent in West Virginia for this year’s Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl.

At 6-6 SU, the West Virginia Mountaineers had a very disappointing season by all stretches of the imagination. The lackluster performance on the field resulted in the firing of Head Coach Neal Brown, who was let go following the Mountaineers’ 52-15 blowout loss to Texas Tech in the season finale. At this time, the entire buzz around the Mountaineers program surrounds the search for the next head coach, with names like Rich Rodriguez potentially being tossed around as a candidate to return to Morgantown. While the head coach search continues, Offensive Coordinator Chad Scott is slated to lead the Mountaineers to battle against the Memphis Tigers for the Frisco Bowl showdown.

Memphis Tigers vs. West Virginia Mountaineers Betting Analysis

Since the firing of Head Cacoch Neal Brown just last week, the Mountaineers have already had seven players enter the transfer portal, including LB Josiah Trotter, who was 2nd on the team with 93 tackles. While most of the transfers will not impact the starting rotation, we have to consider the circumstances around the Mountaineers football program going into this match-up and question if they can pull together a quality effort. From what we witnessed on the field earlier this year, West Virginia was extremely bad on the defensive side of the football and even struggled on the offensive side of the football far too often with QB Garrett Greene, who tossed just 13 touchdowns and 11 picks this season.

From a match-up perspective, I just don’t see many paths to a victory for the Mountaineers. The West Virginia defense has been downright awful and will have the unfortunate luxury of drawing a very dangerous Memphis offense that has talent all over the field. QB Seth Henigan has thrown for 3,208 yards with 24 touchdowns and six picks on the season. RB Mario Anderson Jr has also rumbled for nearly 1,300 yards and 17 touchdowns on the season. Needless to say, I believe the Memphis offense will keep the offense on their heels for a full 60 minutes. If the West Virginia offense does not respond, things could get out of hand.

Memphis vs. West Virginia Betting Prediction

Postseason college games are somewhat volatile because the effort level is rarely predictable. With that said, I still see few paths to West Virginia having much success in this game. As a result, I’m backing the Tigers in this match-up with confidence!
