Big Ten divisional rivals open their conference slates when Wisconsin battles Purdue Friday night in West Lafayette. The Boilermakers won the Big 10 West last year but lost their head coach. The Badgers floundered their way through last season, and they’re now playing under a new head coach, too.
Wisconsin owns a 16-game winning streak on Purdue and is favored by a short touchdown for this contest.

Wisconsin Betting Preview
The Badgers are 2-1 under new HC Fickell after defeating Georgia Southern at home last Saturday 35-14. But that game was a lot closer than that final score might indicate. Wisconsin, favored by 20 points, drew first blood with a second-quarter touchdown but only took a 7-7 tie to the half. The Badgers fell behind to the Eagles 14-7 early in the third but woke up, scored touchdowns on their next four possessions, won the game, and even came away with the unlikely cover.
Wisconsin actually got out-gained by Georgia Southern 455-451 but out-rushed the Eagles 207-72 and won the turnover battle 6-0. Yes, 6-0.
The Badgers opened this season with an underwhelming 38-17 victory over Buffalo, then lost at Washington State 31-22. So Wisconsin’s yet to put on a good, full, four-quarter football performance this season.
The Badgers returned a bunch of starters this season and brought in a bunch of transfers. Despite the coaching change, Wisconsin went off as the favorite to win the B10 West.
Purdue Betting Preview
The Boilermakers are 1-2 under new HC Walters after losing at home to Syracuse last Saturday 35-20. Purdue, a two-point home dog, gave up the first 14 points of the game and trailed 21-7 at the half. The Boilers pulled to within 21-14 in the third quarter and only trailed 28-20 with plenty of time left in the fourth but could get no closer.
Purdue got out-gained by the Orange 455-403 and out-rushed 271-80. But what really hurt was turning the ball over five times, four on giveaways and once on downs, inside Syracuse territory.
The Boilermakers opened their season with a heart-breaking 39-35 loss to Fresno State, then won at Virginia Tech 24-17.
Purdue only returned 11 starters this season from a team that played in the Big Ten championship game last season. With the coaching change, the Boilers went off as one of the longest shots on the Big 10 championship betting board at +10000.
Wisconsin-Purdue Recent History
The Badgers own a 16-game winning streak on the Boilers, stretching back to 2004, going 12-4 ATS along the way. Last year in Madison, Wisconsin, which was only favored by two points, scored the first 21 points of the game and won 35-24.

Wisconsin is yet to play a full four quarters for Coach Fickell, but when it does, it’s going to blow somebody out. The Badgers are just the better team in this match-up, with the better running game and the better defense, and playing on the road means the spread’s a bit friendlier. We’re playing Wisconsin on Friday night.
