COLORADO STATE VS BOISE STATE INTRODUCTION

This Friday night, while many will be taking in some local high school football games, ESPN2 will be airing a Mountain West Conference showdown between the 4-2 Boise State Broncos and the 3-4 Colorado State Rams. Both teams enter this game at 2-1 in the Mountain West Conference and sit just one game behind Utah State for the division lead. This will be the eighth time these two programs have played each other and Boise State has never lost to Colorado State.

Ohio State vs Purdue Pick & Prediction

Boise State is a huge and I mean HUGE home favorite over the Rams. The books have the Broncos as 24 point favorites over Colorado State and the total points are set at 62.5. Although the line is at 24, the public still likes Boise State to cover. 62% of the public action likes the Broncos minus the points and as for the total points, 59% thinks these two teams combine for more than the 62.5.

KEYS FOR COLORADO STATE

The Rams have a tough one this Friday night. Winning in Boise seems damn near impossible, it really isn’t. The Rams have won their last two games and are finally getting a little momentum going in their favor. Colorado State in the last two weeks have taken down San Jose State and New Mexico and are just a win away from getting back to .500. In order to have any chance to win this game, the Rams offense must get going. Points are going to be scored by Boise State, we all know that, and if Colorado State’s offense starts sputtering, this game could get out of hand quick.

On offense, the Rams will look to the play of wide receiver, Preston Williams and quarterback, KJ Carta-Samuels. Williams is the type player that can make an impact without even touching the ball. Defenses are forced to focus on him allowing Carta-Samuels to spread the ball around Colorado State MUST have offensive success, but some defense will need to be played. The Rams defense has not done its part so far in 2018. They are allowing the opposition to score 35 points per contest but that number is a tad skewed. Colorado State has had to play their in-state rival, Colorado, who stormed out of the gates this season and they also had to face off against two SEC schools in Florida and Arkansas. This schedule has not been a cake walk but with that said, the defense MUST make plays this Friday night to have any shot in this one.

KEYS FOR BOISE STATE

Boise State enters this game at 4-2 and they still control their own destiny in regards to winning the Mountain West Championship. One thing I worry about is the fact that this could be a game that Boise State takes lightly and I promise you, Colorado State is not a team you want to do that with. Another key to this Friday’s game for the Broncos is that they cannot allow Colorado State to get any easy points. That goes for the defense as well as the offense. In the last two games, Boise State quarterback, Brett Rypien, has thrown five interceptions. Boise CANNOT lose the turnover battle this week because Colorado State is the type of team that will make you pay with good field position. Stay the course and play your game Boise…that is how you get the easy win and the cover on Friday night.

THE PREDICTION:

In years past, especially during the Chris Peterson days, I loved Boise State in games like this. For some reason, I am just not feeling it this week. There are way too many people high on Boise State in this game and it looks to me that Vegas likes it that way. I am in no way saying that Colorado State goes in and wins this game outright but I think they somehow and someway keep it closer than expected. Boise State will pull away late and win this game 42-30 but it will be just close enough for the Rams to stay within the 24

Bob’s Pick to Cover the Point Spread: I like Colorado State to keep this game close and stay within the 24. TAKE THE RAMS +24
