Battling the Books | July 17
An Odyssey in Dallas
Recap: 0-1
Record: 8-9, -220
Review: I thought I bet on an Angel.
Turns out, she was Belzabub.
I lost on Angel Reese Ov 13′ points.
In the first quarter she only took two shots.
Both times she was right under the basket.
Both times she missed.
Early in the second quarter she took her third shot of the game. Again she was right under the basket.
Again she missed.
Three shots from right under the rim and she missed all three. As a bettor, you just know that’s going to come back to haunt you.
And . . .
Angel Reese finished the night with 13 points.
I lost by the hook.
Adding to the sting of those first three missed shots was her missed free throw on the Sky’s last possession of the game.
Woulda, coulda, shoulda.
Today’s WNBA games are the last for the month of July. My record is 8-9, -220.
My normal methods haven’t been working over the last couple days so it’s time to switch things up a bit. Back on July 11th I wrote in my review:
“Like I said in my pick/analysis yesterday, they (Dallas) stink. Not much more ‘capping needed than that!”
I should have stuck with that line of thought and went against them in their next game as they lost SU and ATS again. Dallas has now lost eight of their last 10 SU, and 9 of their last 10 ATS.
No, I don’t like jumping on streaks.
Yes, this line (-3′) looks too good as they’re facing the Caitlin’s, who’ve been playing pretty well lately.
But like I said, what I’ve been using hasn’t been working the last couple days so it’s time to switch things up a bit and try to keep things simple.
I’m taking the better team, laying a small number, against the worst team in the league.
Another way to move forward after you’ve lost a couple games is go back to what’s worked for you before. My prop bets are 6-3, with two of the three losses coming by the hook. And Odyssey Sims was one of those winners. Her point total today is set at 14.5 and my number says she passes that by at least three points.
My final play is the early game, Atl/Min Over 152′. Early morning weekday starts show a slight edge to the Over.
I had one yesterday that I didn’t play, Phx/Wash.
It won.
Regular readers know what that means.
But damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead.
Once more unto the breach.
Today’s plays:
Atl/Min Ov 152
The Caitlin’s -3′
Odyssey Sims over 14.5 points -105
