Battling the Books – August 15th
WNBA Betting Challenge: Crack the Code for My Next Pick
The All Star/Olympic break is over and the WNBA is back in action. With college football about to begin (and take up the majority of my free time allotted to handicapping) I’m surprised to find myself still interested in handicapping and betting on the WNBA.
But I am.
Right now, I’m sitting at 20-19, -$130 with my WNBA action. Biggest mistake was laying -150 on a DeWanna Bonner prop at the end of the first half of the season. Eliminate that play and I’m no longer in the red, so note to self: Hey, knucklehead – avoid playing spots with heavy juice in ANY sport. And don’t make me have to tell you again!
I’m now armed with an entire first half full of WNBA stats to rely on to help me decide which games to bet in the second half.
I like my chances for success by season’s end.
Let’s get started.
I have nothing for today’s card (Thursday) but I have a good one for tomorrow. The standard format here at PredictEm is I post a pick, some stats to back it up, and the record for that individual play if it’s from one of my handicapping systems. Readers then decide for themselves if they agree with my analysis and want to bet with me, or if they disagree and want to Fade me.
But not today.
For Friday’s game we’re going to do something different. I’ll still give you a pick, but not in the standard format.
Normally I do all the research, but this time you’re going to have to do a little research for yourself if you want my play. And it’s a strong one, hitting at a 77% win percentage this season.
I believe that if given the choice between building a business that nets them a million dollars or hitting the lottery for a million dollars, most people would choose to build the business. Most would choose the sense of accomplishment that comes from hard work and building something rather than just having it handed to them.
If you want to prove me correct it’s time to go to work. You don’t need to do a deep dive into the numbers, no intense research required, just a little effort and common sense.
It’ll be simple, and hopefully a little fun.
Think of it like a treasure hunt with a winning pick at the end of it, except if the play loses, in which case it’s more of a scavenger hunt, where you get things that are worthless, unless you get My Man Godfrey (I’m guessing only 10% will get that reference but it’s Top Ten on my list of favorite movies. Check it out sometime.)
To get the pick you’ll need just two things, standard items that can be found in any household:
1) a copy of the WNBA schedule
2) a Time Machine
First, get in your time machine and visit me exactly 7 days after Independence Day, 2024.
Once you arrive, follow my advice regarding the former home of Mrs. O’Leary’s cow and the city where you can get the greatest steak in the world, the porterhouse at Peter Lugers.
Second, check Thursday’s WNBA schedule, and then check Friday’s schedule.
And there’s your play.
It’s that simple.
Buy this number on Thursday because I expect it to be higher by Friday.
And if you don’t like challenges and/or you’re too lazy to be bothered with working out a puzzle, you can always visit me tomorrow in PredictEm Forum Land.
(Or visit later today. It’s been a month since I’ve been able to bet on a WNBA game so I’m sure I’ll come up with something to have a little action going tonight.)
Recap: 1-0
Record (August): 3-1; NFL 2-0, CFL 1-1.
Review: Last bet was Chicago Bears Over 17′.
I didn’t get the best number, it closed at 17.
I didn’t get the worst, it was as high as 19′.
It didn’t matter – they scored 33.
